that would barely cover the cost of the ball joints and having them pressed in.
these are low mileage control arms to begin with and the ball joints are brand new.

i thought i remember reading that this was dangerous as the ball joints are different and could come out easily as they were not made for the s13 control arm. am i wrong about this?

I do not know where you read that but there is a Nissan employee here in socal who actually works quite closely with NISMO in fact his car was the prototype car for the Kouki tails. I.E. Nissan stuck them on his car first back in 95 to see how they were. anyways he has been running S14 ball joints in the S13 control arms for years . You have to if you want yoru front geometry to be right when you do a 5 lug swap S14 control arms are slightly longer. Also what you read most likely was people were using the S14 knuckle with the 5 lug on the S13 ball joint. That is dangerous it does come lose easily because of a size difference and the fact is you cannot even get the cotter pin through the hole which is an important safety factor.
I repeat emphatically if your going to do the 5 lug conversion on a S13 you need to put the S14 ball joints in the S13 controls for safety as well as proper suspension geometry.
I Hope this explains it to all you of.
I have had the similar setup in my S13 this was an extra set I have.
The price of the ball joints alone is $63. then you have to have them pressed in. On top of that these are low mileage control arms so the bushings are in very good condition.
$150 for the set is quite reasonable.
