S13 red top and black top- whats the difference?

Whats the spec difference between these 2 engines?
I do know black top is the late gen..
why is the price is much higher then the red top since the spec are the same between these two?

denpends on what black top you are refering to. The s13 black top is newer, no changes, just a black top. The s14 black top has VTC and a T28. The intake runners are also different

buying a s13 blacktop just means you're buying a newer engine. That's the ONLY difference. This may or may not have any direct correlation with how many miles the engine has (japan is geographically tiny by US comparison).

The s13 blacktop head has fins on the front of it suggesting that it just "might" have been cast differently. However unless someone is willing to flowbench a redtop and blacktop head we'll never know.

when I look at the spec for both engines.. its exactly the same.. only the rocker color is different!

its like you just fork out more money for the rocker cover..
which is 200 - 300 difference.. shoot!
