i remember seeing billboards for checkered vans in the mid 80s
http://www.zappos.com/images/722/7226411/985-12489-d.jpg

i remember when you were the shit for having a haro, mongoose, or dyno, and reading radical rick comics in bmx plus

i remember having a tv that actually had a dial, and it only went to channel 13. and i remember getting it NEW. it was black and white btw.
so "don't touch that dial" and "click through the channels" actually made sense, as well as calling the remote the "clicker" when they first came out.

i remember watching new episodes of CHiPS on tv

man those were the days

You REMEMBER when you were 5?
I remember only small details about when I was 5, and it usually takes somethign to remind me... For instance, we used to live on Byrd Street when I was 5, and I remember sitting on the handlebars of my sister's friend's bike and falling off and it requiring a trip to the emergency room, that one is easy to remember.
More obscure was the feeling about the guys who lived behind us "damn, those guys have a lot of dogs!" and how I would not even REMOTELY remember those guys until they got arrested and were on the news for an illegal dog breeding/fighting ring back in 1999, a full 14 years after we had moved out of the neighborhood.
As far as things I remember that I am nostalgic about, there aren't a whole lot, outside of the early/mid-80s San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Lakers, The Thundercats, $0.35 cans of Cheerwine soda, sitting next to the radio with a cassette tape on pause to record your favorite songs, your favorite songs actually coming on the radio, I remember when we actually were expected to play outdoors and did it tirelessly for hours on end, no matter the weather. Days would go by and we'd have played baseball, football, basketball and a marathon game of hide & seek involving the WHOLE neighborhood as the "field" and most of the kids in the neighborhood as participants... I remember how there would always be wrecks at this intersection like 2 blocks from my granny's house, and hearing them, then walking to the corner to see the carnage. First time I ever saw someone actually dead/dying. It took them forever to realize that there needed to be a stoplight at that damned intersection.

Hell, I guess I DO remember a whole lot of shit from my childhood.

I remember that Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes figures were hard as hell to find.

I remember my day picking me up every weekend and going to Toy's R Us to get the next figure for Vehicle Voltron.

Garbage Pail kids.

I remember finding my uncles NWA tape and listening to it real quietly up-stairs and it changing my world.

I remember discovering breakdancing back in 96.

I remember how completely dope it was going to the club being fresh to death.

I could go on forever. I love reminiscing.

Back in the day when I was young I'm not a kid anymore but some days I wish I was a kid again.

I remember the awesomeness of 70's style cartoons in the 80's. Original Transformer, GI Joe, Scooby doo. Man, cartoons rocked hard back then. NES and playing games like Battle toads, Metal Gear and the first time I played duck hunt and instantly hated that damn dog. I remember the best cereal EVER Kaboom. Crystal pepsi. I REMEMBER THE DAY I GOT MY LICENCE GAS WAS $0.96.

Damn I miss them days. Hide and seek with the WHOLE neighborhood. I was the Pog champion. Watching Ninja Turtles (I still got the sheets and blankets somewhere) beavis and butthead, MTV when it actually played music videos, Inspector Gadget, The Dinosaurs (Not the momma lol) Waking up to homemade tortillas, Surge soda, saying BLODDY MARY in the mirror, going to Marshall Scotties ( San Diego only) buying my first Bone Thugs and Harmony tape not CD, making requests to the radio station for "California Love" with the tape deck recorder ready, playing hotwheels on those big carpet car cities, watching Supermarket Sweep, man this could go on for ever. I am gonna go find my Indiana Jones tapes. Thanks for the thread OP.

Anyways I am still young but I remember
-having to go to DOS to play games (on floppy disks)
-writing papers in elementary school on an Apple II.
-I remember before I could drive gas being in cents.
-Biker Mice from Mars anybody?

When I was young I still played outside with the whole neighborhood, I live on a HUGE block with a bike path and park in the middle. Manhunt, home run derby, running bases. I think I am the last generation to do that.

Me too. It takes me like a year to figure out these acronyms everyone uses. I hardly even touched a computer before I was like 19.

well if you wanna bring computers into it i'll play along

my first computer was an Atari 800. some of my earliest memories are of playing grover's space something or other on that hoss.
this was followed by a classy classic 286, and then a 386. for christmas one year i got a Creative cd-rom kit. came with an 8x cd rom drive and a pair of speakers. finally, oregon trail would be both in color and with 16 bit sound.
we got a Packard Bell desktop when Windows 95 came out. 120mhz Pentium. doom and quake never ran so sweet.
in 1998, for my birthday, i was in for a treat. 450mhz AMD K6-2. 2x cd BURNER. Voodoo 3 2000 video card. FUCK YEAH. we actually had a second phone line installed so we could be on dialup without interrupting the house phone. i could burn a whole 74 minute CD in just over half an hour, provided it didn't underrun. i could download enough 128kbps mp3's off napster or IRC to FILL a 74 minute disc in, oh, about half a day if i kept up on it. and when you bought in bulk packs over 100, you could get blank cdr's for a dollar a disc! what a bargain. in 1999 when i was a freshman in highschool, i sold mix cd's for a dollar a track, minimum 10 tracks. i also sold fake oakleys, which were HUGE.

For those not in NC, "weather" is:
Jan - early March = cold and potentially snowy/icy
April - Early June = warm and fucking rainy, don't park and leave the windows open.
Mid-June - July = HOTTER THAN FUCK, but it still might rain
Aug-Sept = still fucking hot, but the rains stop... 108º days make you forget that it was 20º just 6 months earlier.
October = cools off, beautiful color changes
November = More cooling, if it rains, it MIGHT ice
December = stay in the house, it is cold, and if it rains, it WILL ice.

i remember jumping on my sisters bed when i was about 6 years old, even though they always told me not too, it was a twin bed and i would do front flips on it, one day i did a flip, missed the bed, and landed head first on a old metal type writer =( went to the hospital got my head shaved and stiches, i never jumped on that bed again, i remeber it hurting like hell. i laugh at it now though it was funny/dumb

this is the 1988 and before thread

70s counts too

anything that qualifies as "way back," which is 20 years ago and beyond.

it was supposed to be about society and culture and trends and stuff, but people turned it into a tv show thread and people keep trying put 90s stuff in it too.

Well if you think about it, most 240 drivers are in their late teens and early twenty's.

So most cant relate to the OG's.

Didn't Mortal Kombat have a cartoon? God, I remember that shit was AWFUL!
Another thing I was thinking about was the neo-geo. Remember, who ever had that was a BALLER!!!!!! Shit, the system was like a grand!

edit: found it!!! http://youtube.com/watch?v=WjdmOeLJP1I

But seriously! Who use to rock XBand? I was the mother fucking king on MK1. I was always ranked in the nations top 10. Shit kinda fell off when MK2 came out, I was just not as good on MK2 as I was on MK1 but, damn, those were the fucking days. I really remember XBand not having too much lag.
