Rear Light Decal

[240SX21]

hey fellas.  ok, so i came back from my lunch break to my job & saw a yellow S13 hatch in the parking lot.  it was kitted & all that, but the rear lights were unique.  the guy had a yellow decal that covered everything(the center garnish & the blinkers) except for 4 circles(2 on each side, like 180sx lights).  it looked really hot.  ive never seen anyone with that done before.  now i dont know if this would be considered "ricey" but the way i see it, i like the 180sx light look, but im not ready to fork over $400 for some lights.  actually im not ready to fork over $400 for just about anything non-performance related.  but what do you guys think about the decal idea?  any of you seen it done before?

Anyway.
The guy was probably going more for the oneline look or a R32 taillight look, but I can't imagine it turning out well.
It sounds as close to pure rice as taillights get to me. :thumbsdown: &nbsp;On the other hand, if he had done 'most all he could've already done to the rest of the car (suspension/engine/drivetrane) then I guess it's justifiable...

I can't say that I've ever seen a decal job on any car's taillights that I actually liked. &nbsp;But then again you should do what _you_ think looks good.

well see, the reason i think it looked good was because the decal was the exact same shade of yellow as his car, so you couldnt even tell it was a decal unless you were 5 feet away from the car. &nbsp;so it made it look like an actual conversion(which is what i thought it was too until i walked up to it to check it out). &nbsp;i would give it a try on my car, but i doubt i would ever be able to match my car's exact color(stock platinum blue) on a decal, so then it would look cheesy.

yeah i dont like them at all..they looks kinda ricey.. but if ur set on them.. i've got some for sale.. my friend made them for my old s13 fastback but i didn't put em on.. hell i'll give em to ya for shipping price if ya want em.. i've got a chrome set and a black set and a red set.

sounds like the skyline tails, which when you buy those, they come with that crappy lookin spoiler, which looks really bad on a 240 no doubt.

rice....very bad old school rice, the kind you see on ghetto honda's with really bad fart-can rice mufflers, stock steelies with one missing a hubcap, fake chrome fender flares, and a big old Honda racing sticker down the side. I've seen almost a dozen like this, and I laugh, then shake my head.

this is the closest the 240 has to altezza taillights, and it's much worse...I mean, in the day, lots of people were putting vinyl on their tailights, then altezzas came out...and people trashed on the vinyl...now they trash on the altezzas...

I normally don't post as negatively as this...but that is pure crap.

I think a good analysis of the two would be like the crap of a big dog and the crap of a little dog. They're both crap, the only difference is that one's a little worse then the other.

If you like the 180 taillights, get them. They look really nice. I can't even begin to imagine that someone would rather get vinyl stickers then the beautiful 180 tailights...tell me that crappy vinyl stickers can look as good as this http://northwestnissans.com/gallery/s13_hatch/closedclub7.jpg

"Decal" not much more needs to be said. When a guy puts a "decal" over his lights to make it look like a conversion you know it is rice! Bah! That is disgraceful, like having custom hubcaps over your blackies to make it seem like it is rims. &nbsp; i disagree. &nbsp;i would have no problem driving a bright pink, "park bench" wearing, vinyl tail light sporting vehicle if it was FAST. &nbsp;even if someone laughed youd still be able to shit on them in a race, on the street or on a track

personally i dont like yellow on a fastback..yellow is fine on s14s and s15s..also dependso n the yellow too

I am with you guys one the decals and all. But the only thing i think looks good over headlights or tails are eyebrows. On some headlights, eyebrows make it look just bad as long as the light doesn't shine through the piece.

well, if you tinted the lenses all red before putting the decal on, it'd probably look decent... but i dunno, probably stil kinda cheap.
i always thought yellow on a fastback would just be a lame way to grab attention, look kinda ricey... but then i SAW a yellow one. it was beautiful. i'm thinking about painting mine yellow...
