View Full Version : Los Angeles rebuilding coilovers
I was at the junk yard the other day getting my j30 diff, and met this guy there who helped me take it off. I was telling him how I wanted to get my Tein Basics rebuilt by Tein, and he told me any motorcycle shop should be able to do it. I found one by my house, but they have never heard of doing it, but said they are willing to try.
Do you guys know what has to be done? Better yet, do you know any motorcylce shops with experience in rebuilding coilovers? Tein wants 75 per coilover, which doesn't seem bad, but it takes them 3-4 weeks and I am trying to make the Track day at California Speedway coming up here pretty soon. Thanks guys, let me know.

If you need these coilovers, why let a motorcycle shop "try" to rebuild them.

Yeah I agree, that's why I was asking if anyone knew of any other places. i won't be able to hit California Speedway if Tein does the rebuild, they are really slow with their turn arounds. If I have no choice then it is what it is, I just love running that track and want to see how the s13 compares on it with my old crossfire. I think I am going to fair alot better this year on the straightaway, it was frustrating getting passed on the straights by assholes who knew I was faster through every turn, then had to spend the next 6-7 turns passing everyone again, which is frustrating in HPDE because you can only pass in a few different areas.
But yeah, that's way off topic, anyone know of any local shops that do rebuilds? I live in San Dimas but work in Downtown L.A., so any are in l.a. is really ok with me.

Just go to Tein
It will get done properly (and you can be sure of this)
What if you go to a motorcycle shop and they break something, then you try to go to Tein and they say we cannot warranty/fix/etc
You are in Socal, and Tein is in Socal, and $75 per corner isn't that bad at all

ive actually always been told to go to motorcycle shops, from people that have done it before
but A SPEC is totally right though
if anything goes bad i highly doubt tein will back that up
i know of one in costa mesa, i dont know if you would be down to drive down here for it

your right, its not thre money, its the time, i called today and they said up to two months which means ill miss two events, oh well. maybe ill do one event on the suspension i have now (lowering springs), i still have a pretty well built suspension even without the coilovers, ill still handle better than all the stupid focus''s out there. thanks for the input aspec

Any motorcycle suspension shop can revalve dampers, it's just getting them to do the work that's the trouble... I have a shop up here by me (it's in La Crescenta) called Exceptional Suspension Products (ESP) that only does custom suspensions on dirt bikes, sand rails, Baja1000 Trophy Trucks, etc. I got them to do one motorcycle shock for me, but generally they're too busy for little shit like that.
I would not go to a motorcycle stealership for anything.
Oh, and $75/corner isn't bad at all when you consider labor cost, and warranty issues with the work. I'd go to Tein and wait for it if you can't find a suspension shop closer/faster.
