I recently removed the rear subframe from my 89 coupe. The subframe was stuck. It turned out that the front left bushing had siezed onto the stud. I cut the bushing out on the car and was able to drop the subframe. (I'm installing metal bushings). Now my question is, how do I get the rest of the bushing off the stud without breaking or damaging the stud. Here is a pic:

I've tried heating hit. I can't quite get any vice grips on it to try and break it loose. I have a sawsall, but I'm afraid of cutting the stud. What would you do?

Throw some PB on it first to let it soak. Bang it with a hammer to loosen it, then use a large prybar and pry downward. If that doesn't get it, cutting it will work as long as you use a short blade and go slow, to keep from hitting the bottom of the car.

heat it up with a torch, be careful of anything plastic, and then pry with a pry bar. i ran into this same issue, and that worked for me.

Do all the above but be SUPER CAREFUL not to break that stud off!!! Although its a pretty tough part of the car, replacing it can be a real mo fo.

I know. I had to replace one on a z32. It was a BITCH. I've tried heat, and PB blaster. I'm going to keep trying that and I guess I'll start carefully cutting it after cleaning the rest of the rubber off.

PB blaster, like every else said.
IF it doesnt work, get the fire out.
You break that stud, you're going to hate your life.
