Foamy Engine Brite!!! It sticks to everything and foams up a bunch and stays really thick. Leave it on there till the foam starts to go away, then go at it with the scrubblies/bristlies! If you're degreasing the whole engine and tranny like I did, you'll need 3 cans, otherwise get 2 and you'll have some left over for parts.

Yup... Handy stuff...

From all the products I have used, Purple Power is the strongest. Its eats that grease away. I havent had much luck with others on heavy built up grease. If its just light dirt buildup, gunk and engine brite is great.

If you can find the older Castrol Super Clean, that stuff is the SHIT! It'll take primer off your fenders, it'll etch your fingernails, and is just badass in general.
So badass, in fact, that it's been taken off the market and isn't produced anymore, at least in California. Most Napa stores still have 5 gallon bulk buckets of it, so if you're dedicated to degreasing, go for it!
But for caked on grease/dirt/mud combos, nothing is going to cut through all of it- be ready to use some Elbow Grease- that stuff is still available (although hard to find) in California!

Gunk works well, but it leaves an oily residue on your engine and even worse your driveway. You could just use simple green, it works pretty good.

ideally you would take it to a car wash place to blast that shit off

but it's a pressure washer and water will get into places it's not supposed to

usually i use a combination of goodies..

foam degreaser
brake clean
purple power

and a copper wire brush will get off alot of crap (this will make the biggest difference. )

hell if you want to you can even use diesel fuel...thats basically what the degreasers are. I used it to clean my old 75 bmw 2002 engine and cleaned up very nicely

Yeah, when pressure-washing your motor be sure to have the necessary tools with you to remove the cap&rotor and the plug wires with you. It is very common to get water in those two spots which causes a misfire and sometimes the car won't even start. Also it is a good idea to have compressed air available as occasionally water will get into the harness connectors and cause all kinds of mysterious electrical issues.

Purple power eats ANY grease you throw at it... Crap, it even eats the rough top layer of your fingers, leaving them super soft(in a bad way...soft because you are missing a thin layer of skin soft...lol)

I cleaned my engine bay without scrubbing anything, just hosed it down, used engine degreaser, wait, repeated steps 1 and 2, then hosed it off and let it dry in the sun. You could've eaten off any part of it, then I went over it with simple green a week later and grease didn't even like sticking anymore... till the salt came

^I got curious with that too one day and I was amazed. It is pretty hardcore considering it was meant to take off food grease.
