im about to give up my clean babied coupe with a ka motor twin cam , s14 seats hks grounding kits and many more mods. the person who is trading his bone stock sr20det to me is a kid who just got the car and now daddy wont let him drive it. my point is the car has a bit of out side damage to the drivers side door pannel but the motor has been rebuilt the turbo is at 7 psi he never installed a boost controller and the motor looks cherry. he wants to trade for a bone stock car . his tags are due in june and the car willl probably need to be smogged. im going to his house to test drive the car and see if its what it is. the kid and his bro seem honest but im skeptic. help me with some advise with my situation. should i trade it or do a swapp myself i dont have pics of my car this computer is new soo if u can check out user s13poop photo galllery u can see my coupe . thanks alot guys

clean 240s are getting harder to come by now .. i'd keep yours and swap a motor later, but if you MUST have power now, then of course, trade up.

well think about the cost of how much it is to swap it, vs how much it would be to fix up his coupe, add in upgrades, and did he put the engine in or have it professionally installed. sounds like a good deal tho.

GL

oh and make sure do atleast do a compression check and if possible a leak down test.

berz

he had it professionally done. and i have money to dropp into it . this car wont be my dd. he has stock 15' steelies on the front and some 17' pn the real will thiss affect the way i drive it , because this would be my first time in an sr, and if it pulls in ne direction should i be in fear???? thanks

the comprssion test and leak down test should be done bfore we trade or after.? id assume after but im headed out to his house tonight and wanted to make the deal happen if the car felt right.

fuck no. keeep your car. let him deal with another buyer. whose to say how the motor was treated. and a few months from now you have to start replacing pieces. Keep your slightly modded coupe and enjoy it. and just wait to go SR in your cherry coupe. Sure its great to save some cash now, but how do you know if it will end up costing you more in the end.

do it before the trade!!!!

do you have any friends that know how sr are supposed to feel like??

iono this seems sketchy, but thats because im just a very paranoid person.. lol

test drive it tell him youll think about it, and tell us how it ran

but on the other hand if its not your dd its kind of a win situation

if i was in the situation you are in, not your dd, and the car ran ok and

passed compression test. i would take it..

just think about it, with the money you have now you could rebuild the turbo, get a new clutch, water pump.. and so on.. and have a great running sr

thats what im saying. i have $$ but need to know how the car should feel??? at 7psi is the car gonna pull to the left and right when its boosting or wheel shaking or does the sr pull at high rpm or low? im going to drive it normal but again im gonna whomp on it too.

ThatGuy

I wouldn't trade a KA for an SR.

the car shouldn't pull either way under boost....it should still drive straight....7 psi isnt a lot of boost

check for boost leaks, open the hood and see if you can hear anything whistling

check the idling, let it run for a while and see how the car idles

when you run it check when boost kicks in should be around 2800- 3100 rpms, any higher u have problems

the car shouldn't pull either way under boost....it should still drive straight....7 psi isnt a lot of boost

if its running fine you will feel boost kick in

Is better for you just swap your own SR also you know your car more then everyone else, i wont trade it KA are weak but still can have fun at touge and track... people always want something faster but how fast can you go on the street? or do you have the skill at track? .. anyways i wouldnt trade for that SR

umm so you guys basically have the same cars, but his has an SR swap... why is everyone against it?

from your sig it seems your trying to sell your car anyway, so might as well grab the swapped car! and then if you really need the cash, youll be able to sell that car for more.

berz
02-16-2008, 08:00 PM
frosti thanks yea his car is shittier than mine on apperance with a lilrash on the door pannel but his motor is what is standard in this car for drifting, thanks for all ur comments i appriciate what zilvia has to say about a big decision i will make. if his car feels good and pulls decent should i be still on high alert for that compression test and leak down test

omgomgomgomgomgomg sr! theyre not god, but at the same time, nothing to sneeze at. sure are better than a stock KA :)

i for one have a turbo KA. sure i didnt spend as much money as i would have on an SR, just spent more time. but really, time is money.

i went yall and i was dissapointed at what 7psi and a wak tanabi coilover set felt like, there was alil oil shine on one of the hoses so i only asssume there was a oil leak from the turbo. the car idled fine and it was leaking a little ps fluid. but in all i was dissapointed can some one help me out with a motor, if u guys runn across abone stock sr give me a holler, thanks yall

You'd have been silly to greenlight that trade anyway, a working car in good physical condition for a decidedly shittier one with only the addition of an SR?
Best deal with the devil you know, and if you MUST have a swapped car, swap it yourself, or at least HAVE it swapped yourself, knowing the history is well worth the heartache.

If you go G's as for James, if you go Phase 2 as for wyne

02-17-2008, 09:26 PM
dude don't do this to my old coupe!!

throw in an SR when you get the money install it your self and that way you know what went into the whole build

clean and untamperd s chassis are hard to come by stick with the one i sold you and build it up top to bottom don't trade for some one else's problem

im located in so cal sgv, but i have a trailer and a truck so ii want an rb motor or sr redtop mostly the sr cuss its an sort of easy build

bardabe
02-17-2008, 11:32 PM
keep your clean coupe, and i can swap out the sr or rb clean. i did it rcently to my friends Coupe. workign on clean chassis always makes the swap look cleaner too.

sideview_180sx
02-18-2008, 06:27 AM
rb is an easy build. if its a rb25. change out turbo. add fmic. injectors. boost controller. easy 300+hp with RB engine sounds.

all you want is 250hp? thats very easy to get with a turb'd out ka.

unicoladron
02-21-2008, 07:55 AM
i agree with everyone else, and also, if he's a kid, god knows how knackered the swap is. (wiring harness, cut corners, shitty parts, etc).

McDuck
02-22-2008, 12:29 PM
I'd stick with the ka engine and just lightly build it with bolt on's. You could probably get around 220-230hp (measured at the fly) but would be a more reliable engine.

an_orange_s2k
02-22-2008, 03:39 PM
stick with ur car and do the swap later, you'll have the peice of mind that YOU did it right(bought good motor, work, wiring all good), rather than running the risk of having to rebuild

JRas
02-22-2008, 04:52 PM
I was in a similar situation

trying to decide between two S14's one SR one KA

KA was clean inside and out minimal rust something I could really build off of few mods but simple nothing the owner could mess up on too bad

SR was thrashed and I didn't trust the owner it would of taken a lot of work and even than it wouldn't be anywhere near what my car could be

same price by the way don't regret it for a second

so you live in so cal and you don't know where to find a motor and a place to swap it? im sorry but like so cal is SR central. theres tons of shops in socal that sells sr motors and plenty garages that does swap. are you specifically looking for a SR motor? if not why not go KA-T? just a suggestion.

berz
02-24-2008, 07:44 PM
for the record i want an easily maintained ride with the qualities of 300 hp max , so i decided on an sr. but at this point in the game im fixed up my beast 70datun z and i only have 1500 cash to play with for the coupe. now who needs my 1500$$$$$$$.. hahah jk.

02-24-2008, 08:18 PM
I remembered. I talked to you about trading coupes, and you throwing some cash on top :D

Anyways. Everyone knows nowadays its hard to find a clean ass 240sx that hasn't been abused and what not (who knows what poop did :keke:) but just swap the SR motorset in yourself. At least you still got the car you like, plus the power under the hood.

Just my .02

Keep that mentality, don't let anyone change your mind into getting it. Trust me I gave up a clean hatch and i recently bought another one that isn't nearly as clean and I'm kicking myself.

Edit: If I were you I would go KA-T, I've been in a few and they impressed me way more than an sr. Also you're in Socal and cops are cracking down on illegal engines and they know what an sr is. If you ever decide to go KA-T I can give you some numbers of people that tune ecu's and know a lot about building them here in SoCal.

I would NEVER trade a car that Ihave built myself and that I KNOW is solid for somebody else's hackjob. I don't care what parts this kid has thrown at his car I wouldn't do it!

koukikat180sx
04-04-2008, 11:50 PM
I wouldn't trade... a clean chassis is hard to find. just because he said the motor was professionally done, doesn't mean that it's a good job. there are a lot of "professional" shops out there.

My SR came from Hybrid Performance. <3 Yes it came from the east coast, but I got a kick ass motor!

Keep your car since its clean and do the swap yourself. Better to have YOUR clean car WITH a swapped motor then a SR'd car thats not your care and already has more work that has to be done : )

This may have been already said, since I'm too lazy to read, but why not check the motor out, if it's clean juss swap motors instead of cars that way he can have his DD and you can have the track slut, and still keep the money you've dumped into you car.
