OK..my DOHC KA has 190k on it...Has 0 leaks,0 problems 5 speed Trans No Grinds/leaks (though clutch could use replacement) No Issues what so ever.
I drive it Daily,.every day and have had NO problems.
Whats about the price it is worth to sell Everything (swapping my SR in soon) but a friend wants this, for his Motorless Hatch he just bought. His car has Nothing in it.I will still need my Pwr steer stuff and A/c components for the SR swap - so minus that stuff only.

How much is it worth granted the mileage is high but if you were to have seen/SEE my car - it is and was in GREAT Shape - grandma must have owned it before me..my interior, ext (aside from a few dents) was unreal.

could even give him the cluster to match his mileage to the engine as well.
what is it worth.

Awesome....I was seeing some threads where I thought some people were saying like $100-$200 - I was like DAMN..I don't need $200 that bad.

I wanna hook my buddy up and not Overcharge him so $400+/- might be good for him.He needs basically everything. He'll def be getting a Good motor..I'd say a Clutch and maybe a New MAF and it'll run waaay better.

I was questioning keeping the KA trans incase my SR trans is all "Grindy/ghetto" that I could try to use that one instead.

Thanks everyone:bigok:

those guys are on crack $500 for a KA and tranny with 190k? Might as well pay me. fuck that. You were correct in assuming it was only worth $100-200. Anybody selling you a KA with trans with 190k for $500 is A: ripping you off or B: taking advantage of someones stupidity.

Second this.

There's still many risks in buying a motor with high mileage.

Parts wear down with age.

Shit, it would be a better option to just buy a KA for $100ish and have it rebuilt.

WAAY more reliable...

Question...

How much would you pay for a Twin Cam KA with 54k miles...?

A lot more I bet.

dude, after your sr is in the car and running, sell your friend the engine/transmission/cluster/harness/et c. for $200 and tell him to get it rebuilt. you'll be helping your friend out. isnt that whats important?

personally, id feel bad if i charged a friend more than that. hell the guy at the junk yard isnt even my friend, and thats what he'd charge me for an engine/tranny combo (wouldnt charge me for the cluster or harness)

yea man, $500 for a KA is bogus. ESPECIALLY when your selling it to a friend. If it were me, and my SR was already running well, and my friend needed a motor, i'd probably donate it to him (depending on the friend). but i'd say $200 would be fair.

To start...I posted the Thread in order to find out how much it was worth..so its obvious i didn't know.I didn't say:
"selling my Friend my KA w/ 190k on it for $500...fair?"

I was trying to find out what WOULD NOT rip my buddy off.
if its only worth $200...then as stated before...I don't really need $200 that bad...I'll keep the Tranny and give him the motor for free for all i care.

Sounds like some people have gotten away w/ that ($500) and if someone needs it bad enough...I guess They'd spend $500 on it.
better to have something you know will Run then having to Build a motor w/ Nothing to Drive on..or take a chance at spending all the time dropping it in and Bam, a week later it "taking a shit".

It def dosen't need to be re-built.Its freaking Tip-top for the most part. Not worth the labor/time to Rebuild. If this was a terd ass motor w/ Leaks from every seal then maybe.

Thanks guys & gals.

I got a 100k 98 KA with auto tranny for free and sold the tranny for $175 and kept the ka as a backup for my KA-T. All I had to do was come pick it up. It was from a shop that did tons of sr swaps and had tons of ka's laying around that they didn't want.
I would say you could sell the motor for maybe about $200 and maybe another $100-$150 for the tranny.

Yeah I believe $500 is too much, a running KA swap should be $300 max unless it's super low miles which that probably is impossible to find these days.

wow.... 190k and no leaks what so ever? nice.
I bought a spare S13 KA with tranny and ECU for $100. Sold the tranny for $110, the S13 ECU for $50, and the 240/248 cams for $90.

And I still end up having a spare short block :D

I purchased a 155,xxx mileage KA24DE with a fresh timing chain, with a 5-speed for $500.

Did I mention it came surrounded by a a nearly complete chassis that I used for a parts car?

No more than $200 if theres over 100K on it. It doesn't matter how strong you say its running.

02-17-2008, 02:00 PM
i personally wouldnt pay that at all. i have a ka with 180k and a ka with 120k on them and both with auto trannys. and ill take 300 for both right now..
