i just recently got a glass bead blasting cabinet at my shop and was wanting to do my SR valve cover. but after looking at it closely i noticed there is some metal mesh sandwitched between some riveted plates in the cover for the breather tubes and the "T" on the side of the cover. now i know the fine glass powder would get stuck in there so that is a deff no no. but i've seen soooo many powder coated and painted covers so they had to strip them some how. anyone done anything like this before? tips? i've thought about drilling out the rivets and taking it out then blasting it, but then how would you go about putting it back in?

Well you'll really only be blasting from the top, get some of the wide electrical tape and seal off the bottom and plug the T with rubber. Sure both of them will get there asses kicked but it'll stay sealed long enough to blast it.

For the stuff I do, tape up what you do not want to get touched by the material you are blasting with. Make sure the VC is free of oil or it can contaminate the beads. And clean the VC really good after you are done to get the glass... off. I did not tape off the bottom, but I did not directly blast the bottom though.

^ same here.
I also cleaned mine much longer than needed afterwards, just to be sure nothing is left in there.

Yea thats the scary part not knowing if you cleaned enough, I wish the baffle plate was a screw on type so you could take it off, all you can do is try not to blast around any area that could ingest the beads and tape them off.

I have made cardboard bottoms that are cut out to fit tightly in the bottom, then i Black RTV them in to seal the bottoms shut. then cap off any other holes and blast them, also parts washing them to get all the oil and residue out of them helps also to keep the blast media from sticking to the insides.
