My SR ran on a slight rod knock for almost 2 years. Engine was strong and everything. I said the hell with it, drive it till it dies then rebuild time. Weird thing is that the rod knock never got worse, well until it finally gave up. You could only hear it knocking if you held it at a certain RPM, you couldn't tell at idle or under full throttle. Just was curious about it and thought I'd see if anyone else had heard of this type of thing.

my question for you is why would you wait for it to get worse and instead of fixing something when its minor and spending less money than you now have to fix a probably even bigger more expensive situation

he already stated that he wanted to blow shit up so he can rebuild it, sorta makes sense to me. just ever so slightly

I planned on rebuilding it anyways. When I noticed the rod knock I figured I'd have a few months at the most, never thought it would last almost 2 years. Yes I could have bought a crank kit and had new bearings and all done, but I wanted rods/pistons etc. Now she runs great with Eagle rods, CP 9.1:0 86.5mm pistons, Cometic hg, went ahead and replaced the timing chain assembly, Spec clutch, Fidanza flyweel, ARP heads/mains. I'm lovin it!

He already said he wanted to rebuild the whole engine in the first place, like 3 times.

Hehe, my original plan was to rebuild whether the engine died in a few months or in my case almost 2 years. Just was wondering if this had happened to anyone else. I've had a couple of friends with cars that started knocking and one died within a week and the other about a month.

My car has always had a noise like that but only for the first second or two after start up when she's cold. Sounds like a penny in a soda can.
