Just a quick question that came to my mind:
I know that everybody wants to turbo their KA or drop in the SR, but Ive read some people's posts who say that theres no real point to supercharge. I was just wondering why this is?

do some research around the forum... this has been discussed a lot before..
but one thing is that... turbocharger is a lot more efficient than supercharge... besides.. supercharge can cost you the same as turbocharge but you'll get way more output from a turbo
correct me if im wrong guys

you're mostly right
superchargers tend to be quite a bit less expensive than turbos, which is why they're still around (IMHO), superchargers are more suited to higher displacement engines tho, as they are belt driven (mostly), thus tax the engine before you get the induction benefit.

That's a seriously simplified view, but that's the general gist of it.

The way I look at it...

Turbocharging a vechile will give you more horsepower than supercharging it would.

A turbo also runs off of the exhaust while supercharger will run off the engine itself. The turbocharger is great other than the lagging you will encounter while it is spooling. That is what a supercharger eliminates;it is a more immediate response than the turbo.

Personally I would run a turbo on my KA instead of a supercharger because there is enough low end power on the KA. If i was running a weak honda, maybe i would go with the supercharger... but i'm not!!

Turbo or supercharge will give almost or the same power at the same boost. True more engine lag on super but more immediate response. But would not the the same Psi on either produce almost the same results? And how could you ever have enough torque? I still would like to get a eaton, roots type supercharger out for the KA. Unstable seems to have given up on this. I guess there is always a centrifical type but this does not have the same response or torque production.

isn't R35 going supercharge instead of TT?

from wat i hear..they stop making the skylines..R series..same for silvias..but i dont think they will stop the GTR badge..im guessing they will make some other car like the skyline but named diff and have the GTR badge on it...correct me if im wrong on the R35 thing.

i can't compare 240sx's with a turbo and supercharger, but a chevy s10/blazer forum i go to, there are some people with turbochargers, some with superchargers. the turbocharged ones seem to have a little better trap speed in the quarter mile, with the same amount of boost. i just wonder if it would be the same for the 240sx.

i was under the impression that the g35 coupe was the successor to the skyline. I seen a picture of their prototype r35 and it looks very similar, the roof line is almost identical, just the front grill/bumper is different.
I believe the picture i saw was in the april 2002 issue of HCI,

I could be wrong though

Superchargers will allways afford less power at the same level of boost because of the loss driving it.. It really is quite a significant loss, escpecially at the higher boost levels where it grows exponentially.

I guess it drags on the whole as bad as say the AC. Thanks for filling me in. Still like that whole low end torque thing with the roots type though. Maybe you could get one of those backfire devices like they use in WRC to keep the turbo spooled even when your not on the gas. I don't know

The problem with a misfiring system (anti-lag system) is that it heats up the engine unbelievably, and it also makes the turbo(s) wear out faster, because the combustion actually happens half outside of the combustion chamber. It's definately not suited for a daily driver without some brilliant engineering

Yeah Transient! Thanks for the killer info. Is there anyway you could toggle this system on or off so you could just run it some of the time? like Auto X or drag. I mean it isn't something like changed timing or cams is it. I was under the impression it was just some injector and means of ignition. Could'nt you be able to toggle this. It seems like you got some knowledge on this. Once again, Thanks man, this is why i come to this forum. yeah
