I am going to replace the coolant temp sensor on my S14 SR motor and I was wondering if the one for the S13 SR is the same. Everywhere I have seen them for sale only states the S13 one as an option. I would assume that they are the same, but I don't like buying things based off of assumptions. Any help would be great appreciated.

Use a B14 SR sensor IIRC.

I was hoping there was another coolant temp sensor I could use. B14 was the 95-99 sentra/200sx correct?

I'm replacing it to try to figure out if my fan controller is dead or if my CTS is bad.

If the ECU CTS is dead, your car will run like shit once the engine is warm.

Are you 100% sure. Can anyone else chime in on this?

oh yea your car will run crazy rich if your CTS is bad. Your ecu will think you are in closed loop still and just keep dumping fuel.
And no I dont think the s13 CTS is the same is S14. I know that the USDM 91 sentra se-r CTS is the same as the s13 sr20 CTS. So you may want to try the B14 CTS as mentioned above. That should be the right CTS for you.
Go to the nissan dealer and find out if the B13 and B14 CTS have the same part number. Make sure they know its the se-r. This should give you a better clue.

True, a bad CTS will signal the ECU to run the cold fuel map all the time, even when warm, running extremely rich and tripping to O2 to go into open loop. You can also test it by unplugging it, if the OEM electric fan is still wired in, the fan will turn on immediately, no matter the actual temp.
Is yours a red plug, or blue plug?
