View Full Version : *NEED ASSISTANCE* Tranny problems PART 2........................

ok so my first thread was answered
i put a tranny in my coupe, pedal still skunk to the ground
everyone said "hey it's your Master Cylinder"
so i replaced the Master Cylinder, bleed system and all was good
http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?t=174327
Until tonight
after driving for a while the tranny is being a biatch and wont go into certain gears
first it was first and third
then it was maybe fourth and fifth
keep in mind while driving it would be fine some times and then sporadically it would give me problems
once the car sat for a while before being driven again all was well and then bang, same thing again
so everything was good now i am having problems
need advice what it may be since i just put this transmission in...dont want to take it out if i dont have to
though i know its gonna be the only way to find the true problem.
thx for any advice.

What fluid are you using?

What fluid are you using?
at the time all was available was Autozone 75-90weight
could that be it since it only happens some times?
also is it good to use Lucas Oil stablizer in the Nissan trannies?

was your car a 5-speed before? or you just replace the tranny. check to see if you have the lock nut that makes sure the clutch pedal doesnt travel. http://www.specialtyz.com/images/adj2.jpg
have someone in the car pressing the clutch pedal and you under the car looking at the slave move and see if it moves a little or alot. if it moves a little and doesnt puch the fork much its just a pedal adjustment or bleed the lines.if that doesnt work check the slave cylinder and see if its still good.http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o13/FroSt415/slavecyl240sx.jpg

cool, will do when i get home.
i think it maybe the tranny fulid also because it was just the autozone brand and tranny only started actin up after some agressive driving.

Along the same line make sure your pedal is adjusted to the right height because the throw of the pedal changes as the fluid heats up which can cause the clutch to work improperly

Another problem that could be the case is what's happening to mine right now. The throw out bearing sits on a shaft and as it travels the shaft is supposed to stay stationary but if you drive line is a tiny bit out of wack, it could snap that shaft and cause it to spin. causing your clutch pedal to stick or gears to grind. I'll try to get a picture later of the part.

Try different fluid. I had a similar problem when I tried to use mobil one synthetic oil in my trans. When it got hot it would grind into gears, but when it was cold it was fine. Also try bleeding the clutch again. If you still have the dampener thing it is pretty hard to get all the air out of it sometimes.

This problem would be more consistent and you would hear other noises as well. I highly doubt that this is his problem. The part you are talking about is the input bearing retainer, they rarely break.

did not get to fully check it out as i just got off work but i did sit in the car and shifted in to gears with out the clutch and with out the car being on
therefore i am ruling out the tranny fulid and/or over heating
it is still being a biatch to put in to first, second, reverse and what not
hopefully tomorrow i can put it on the lift

But you say that it only happens when the car is HOT right? And you also say that you added some kind of fluid additive right? If that is the case then I would suspect that the fluid is the problem. Changing the fliud is much easier than pulling the trans, which will probably get you nowhere.

WHAT HE SAID!!!!!! I had to remove mine and it worked wonders. I had to bleed like 5 or 6 of the fluid tanks to get mine right.

not saying that is only happened when hot, but i first noticed it after a little agressive driving
and i was asking When i flush the tranny if i should? add LUCAS oil stabilizer
Now when i came home tonight and sat in the car it was still very hard to put in certain gears and thats while the car was off.
thats why i was "rulling out" it being a overheating problem cause the car sat for a full day and still feels the same.
i plan to get it in the air this afternoon so i can check all the parts advised

Dude, :squint:, all cars are hard to put in gear when they are shut off, that means absolutely nothing at all. Since nothing is moving the teeth on the synchros are not quite lining up so you have to force them to line up. I have given you two valid suggestions as to what steps to take next and you just shrug them off like I don't know what the fuck i'm talking about. You're basically saying that what I suggest to try is not the problem because you say so. You seem to have no experience or education to back it up. If nothing is leaking and bleeding the clutch (including the bleeder on the dampener thing), changing the fluid, and adjusting the pedal do not fix it then your trans is almost certainly crap. You've tried adjusting the clutch, you've supposedly checked for leaks, you've bled it, but you have not tried different fluid. That's all that is left to do other than rebuild the trans. Re-check what you have already done and try different fluid! :spank:

i was not ruling out your suggestions but thinking since it previously was very easy to put into gear when car was off, BUT now was still being a biatch that "over heating was not the problem.
i want to check all options that others suggest TODAY i got off of work yesterday and today i am off.
i will keep you guys updated.
thanks again for advice.

How could a flywheel bolt possibly get into the shifter tower?

i know what that is the pond peice looking thing on the clutch fork? use some grease lube on it and you will be fine. remember what mom says... lube lube lube less friction less heat makes things last forever
