I was at the dealership today and I was looking at the new SE-R's, very nice cars, especially the spec-v! Anyway, I was wondering if you could use an SE-R steering wheel on an S14? I need a new wheel, but I want something that still has the airbag and cruise control if possible...and looks nice of course.
hmmmM..thats a good question...i was thinkin of doin the same...never got a chance to post that thought though

hey greg, iirc, it's illegal to remove a steering wheel if it has an airbag still in it. if it's blown, tho, it's all good.
as far as connectability goes, i think it's possible to rewire the SE-R steering wheel if u take it to a competent-enough auto electrician. i've seen S15 steering wheels in another car and the owner said that the airbag is fully functional. how he knows is still a mystery to me.
btw, ur gettin the new SE-R Spec V wheel? u plannin on a late-nite trip to the dealership? don't worry, tho. (i like that smily)

Illegal? no, used steering wheels get sold all the time. Technically it's illegal to run an originally airbag equipped car without one, but that's one of those unenforceables (unless you live somewhere with strict safety inspections).

I figure that it would be fairly compatible since both steering wheels have all the same features and at least they are both Nissan. Then again, there are many years between them. I don't know how I will get my hands on one of them, I am sure that they are fairly expensive from the dealership if you can buy them individually. Trip to the dealership at night?....maybe Anyone want to help?

I'm pretty sure it is possible to do the steering wheel swap you're wanting. Especially since you'll be working with two US Nissan wheels. I put the JDM Kouki S14 K's Aero Lim. Ed. Momo wheel in my S14. The sprial cable was a little different and the cruise took some work, but the airbag plugged right in and I <knock knock on wood> haven't had any probs with it.

That looks really nice, I think I remember when you got that. Didn't you pay a god awful amount of money for it, at least for a steering wheel? Still, looks very nice and clean, I like the red stitching.

Well, since I was at the dealership today, I asked the parts guy how much it would be to buy one of the SE-R steering wheels. The wheel itself with cruise control is about $170, not bad. Then if you want the horn pad with the airbag, it's another $712
Midnight trip to the dealership it is! lol

Yeah Chris... still eyeing your wheel!! It belongs in a Kouki goddamnit. . haha. .
He didn't pay that much, especially for a realllllllly hard to find wheel. I'd have done it in a second.
I was wondering the same thing, anyone try a 97-99 Maxima SE wheel in their car? Looks like the 200sx / Slvia base wheel, albeit it a bit different.

My friend's SE-R has a strange sound coming from the stearing wheel occasionally when he's reversing, it's apparently common with SE-R's if you check out a forum for them... the dealer apparently can't fix the problem and nissan seems to claim it doesn't exhist, but it may be something that would happen if you put one in your 240, i'd look into it.
