I have a 1989 240SX with HUD. It is well documented that the 89-90 speedometer and tach is incompatible. What about the Digital cluster will that work? And what if a CA18DET was to be put in. Will the gauge cluster work with it?

you gotta use the japanese digital cluster. The analog cluster wll not work even if it is the japanese version, the plugs don't match, this is what i have been told as i am in the same boat as you. trying to find a JDM HUD cluster isn't all that easy unless Ihave been looking in the wrong places.

The speedometer signal is the same for the KA, SR, and CA, that does not need to change. You don't need to swap the entire cluster, and you can keep your HUD.
What you need is *only the tach itself* from either a JDM car or a KA24DE car. Any SR or KA24DE stock tach will do, HUD or not. Take apart your current cluster, remove the tach, drop in the new tach. It's delicate work but no more difficult than installing new gauge faces.
