cool thanx, one more question, after you primered it did you seal the primer or just leave it alone?
looks like it will come out pretty good. did you even clear the bay at all? flat white will stay clean for like 2 days.

Please state the build part of it. I see a lot of pics and a list of mods, but, can you go into detail? If not, then there is already a picture thread for this reason.
Please don't take this personal, but a build thread should include what you did, how you did it and why. It should be a reference for someone else to look at and say "oh shit, thats how they did that".

Sorry I will try to post up more picts of the whole stretch of the build. When i purchased the car it was not in runnig condition but had already had an sr in it. the previous owner had not done a very good job on the build...you know the typical spray paint the engine compartment and so on. I have an issue with this type of build as i am more into clean work not just slapped together cars so i decided to gut everything. As you can see from the first picture i completely gutted the engine compartment and stripped it of as much as possible. With the engine compartment stripped of everything I decided to completely degrease and dedirt the under carraige. For anyone who plans on doing the castrol super clean is the shit. This stuff will remove almost anything. From here i sprayed the engine compartment with extra coats of primer base and clear so that it would not scratch as easy. Once this was completed the wheel wells were completly resprayed with dupoint undercoating and suspension components completly cleaned and repainted with por 15. Por 15 is great to use on items in the undercarriage area because it is very strong and rust proof. Once the supension and crossmembers were reinstalled it was time for the engine wiring harness and other engine bay components to be reinstalled. The engine was completly cleaned with castrol super clean and the wiring harness completly rewraped so it would look brand new. From here the 5 lug conversion, 300zx brake and master cylinder upgrade were installed. Next was on to the body work. In the rear i used a simple fender puller/roller from eastwood to perform pull of about 2"-2.5". This puller worked really well, however when doing a pull this large it is near impossible not to cause the metal in the upper rear quarter not to bend in. to fix this i did have to use filler because once it is dented in you can not pull the dent back out. the next step was to make sure that the body kit fit perfectly which other than a couple of wave and slight inperfections it was not to bad. this is currentl where i am at.
within the next 3 weeks i should be able to have the car painted. My goal is have it done for Golden Gardens on March 30th. Hopefully i will be ther because i still have the interior to do. Hopefully this explains my build a little better. If you have questions feel free to pm me or just ask on the thread. sorry for the no caps and spelling i am doing this on my i phone.

You sand the primer then paint. Sealer could be used if you did a wet on wet application. Like if you wanted to sand down engine bay in 320 grit then sealer, color then clear.

nice build! i have a thing for coupes as well. the rear pull looks facking hot especially on the coupes. ive been contemplating on doing the same on mine.
btw: i have the same front rotors. do not heat them up with extreme braking and rest your foot on the brake at a stop. you will feel an unwelcoming pulse...

we love our murano but we are thinking about selling it in a couple of months because we have to many cars. we get about 18 in town and 23 on the highway. it does excellent in the snow and is my official snowboard and winter mobile (ours is AWD). if you want to get your wife one they are super nice. Ours is a SL with the touring package and we have had it for about a year and a half. Let me know though if you want a new or used because I work at a nissan dealer in Burlington. Or you can buy mine ;).....

the kit came undrilled. The front bumper sagged really bad. the rear bumper was a little saggy and not quite wide enough below the lights so extra material needed to be added to the sides to make it line up with the body. Other then that fitment was fairly good.

Alright well it has been a while since i last updated because things have been so busy. I was finally able to paint and clear today since this is the first day off i have had in a while. I rented a gas powered air compressor since my compressor only does 12 cfm at 40psi. I needed one that did 13.5 at 30psi. This made a big difference from trying to paint with not enough volume of air. No orange peel. Amazing. Anyways on to the pics. Let me know what you guys think.

i think everything you've done thus far is top notch. can you please give some notes on what you had to do to fit the aero please? (what types of fastners/screws you used, how you lined it up, etc) i will *hopefully* be getting similar aero as yours for my coupe this spring.
P.S. DITCH THE AUTO SEAT BELTS haha
if you didn't already know, you can use s14 or early 90's sentra seatbelts. or if you want to be cool, s13 canadian seat belts. i just did the s14 seatblets and had 0 problems.
Also, did you use some type of in-line "moisture filter" for your compressed air. i've done alot or research on diy painting and heard this makes up for a nicer end result if used.
awdfury
02-13-2008, 08:26 PM
I was planning on eventually going to harnesses or doing a manual seatbelt swap. I cant stand auto belts. What is the defference in s13 canadian belts. Are they manual only. As far as bumper fitment goes i have not yet purchased any fastners. my plan is to use factory bolts where the bumpers bolt to the fenders and to use factory screws where the bolt inside the wheel wells. I drilled the holes in the skirts and bumpers to line up with all of the factory spots. I did have to add some holes in the rear section of the side skirts because there are no factory holes there
unicoladron
02-13-2008, 08:34 PM
yeah apparently Canadian s13's didn't have the cheesy auto seatblets. i'm so happy with the s14 belts tho, had no problems, didn't have to drill shit, and that monstrosity for the lapbelt that's in the back seat is now gone. god that thing was a nightmare.
yeah i'm not gonna go for perfect fitment or anything of course, but your fitment looked perfect and figured you used some special technique.

Nice... I can't wait until I get a house... a big garage will be a top priority and then I plan on doing exactly what you are doing to my 240. I want mine to be totally clean, I can't stand the grimy undercarriage. I think it will be fun to completely disassemble the car, clean, sand and paint it then put it back together and admire it. :) I'd like to make it 'brand new car' nice.

The only way to remove your quarter window trim is cut it off and buy new ones or have the window removed. Mine were not in the greatest of shape so i just cut them off. To reinstall them they do have to remove the window though. I used a base coat clear coat set up to paint. I would never recommend using single stage because i hear they look like crap. Don't know if this is true because this is the first time i have painted. As far as the mask goes i was told at the store that it would work for painting. if not i guess im a few brain cells shorter

Well it has been a while since I posted an update so here it is. I started putting everything back together about a week ago and it is comming along great. I still need to put on the passanger side skirt but most everything else is on. I am going to be replacing all of the window trim so ignore the crappy ones that are on there now. I also starte to install the carpet which has been a complete bitch. For those of you who plan on replacing your carpet if you can afford it get an oem carpet from the local dealership not one of those cheap ones online. I went the cheap route and this was a mistake. So far it is almost all in but it has been a real pain to make it fit. If you go the cheap route DONT throw away your old carpet first so that you can trace all of the holes. I was not thinking and threw mine away because it smelt like mold and shit if you can imagine what that smells like. Anyways on to the pictures.

Well I made a killer score last night at the local junk yard. They have 3 240's in stock and one of them happened to have a limited slip in it. Im not sure what it is out of but it has what looks like a high capacity oil pan with cooling fins on it. It is a five bolt setup. Any ideas on what this is out of. I will try to post a picture of it up later. I actually really lucked out because I asked them to pull the diff and half shafts for me and when i came back to pick it up they had pulled the whole subframe. SCORE!! Anyways that should be going in in the next month or so after I get it all cleaned up.

I'm for sure going. Gone every year but 1 due to my wife being hospitalized. I know a couple other people going for sure. I usually go early to make sure I get parking. If you're going to bring a camera I suggest extra batteries and SD cards, every year I've gone through about 2 to 3 sets of batteries and filled up 2 2GB SD cards. But its a really good time and it gets bigger and bigger every year! Are you also on NWN?

yea ill be going early as possible and of course bringing my camera. I still have to install my electric fans and a couple other things. Do you want to roll down together. I think I have met you before. I used to have a black evo. Did you used to work at freddies.
i haver the same battery box as you, maybe from the same place. did you use the weak bracket &screws setup to secure the box? trying to find a way to secure that bow without those. and also what paint gun did you use, i actually have 3 cans of duplicolor black but it came out prety heavy, how much thinner did you mix if any.

Finally got thenew front tires on and installed. Also finished the carpet install. Before i got the new tires i had raised the front of the car about 3/4" Now with the new tires it looks a little to high so i am going to lower it back down about 1/2" and raise the the rear about 1/2". I dont have much left to get her on the road. I was able to take a short testdrive today with out the fans hooked up and the exhaust drags really bad on the ground so this needs to get fixed. I also still need to put together most of the interior and hook up the boost gauge, boost controller and turbo timer. Well let me know what you guys think.
Pics to come in about 10 min.

hey, why don't you test fit a 10mm spacer on the rear and see how you like it.
i really dont' care, i love how weverything came out.
are those JDM S13 fenders, or are those some type of aftermarket?
edit*- nevermind, i saw that they are metal on the first page, oem it is!

I Am Waiting For An Alignment And Camber Adjustment Before I Order Spacers So I Know How Much I Actually Need. I Think It Is Going To Be Around 15mm-20mm. It Is Going To Change A Little When I Raise Up The Rear Too. I Want To Make It So The Tire Is Only An 1/8-1/4 Inch Away Form The Rear Fender.
On Another Note I Am Getting A Fan Controller This Weekend So I Should Be Able To Wire Those Up On Sunday. This Means That Tuesday Is Going To Be Exhaust Shop And A Wetsand / Buff. Hopefully It Comes Out Good.

Last night I was up till 1am wiring up my electric fans. I am about 90% done with making the wiring neat as possible. I am pretty happy with the results. I will try to post up some pictures later tomorrow night so you all can see as well. Unfortanatly I did wire up the relay backwards so the fans turn on when the car is off not when it is on. ooops! My bad easy mistake and easy fix. As soon as this is fixed it will be easy enough to adjust the thermostat. The thermostat I used is from Enjuku racing and the fans are off ebay from sneeds speed shop.

where you getting this aligned at? If you're taking it to a shop, bring it to elliott tire and i'll do the alignment for you! Just tell them you want Richard to do the alignment. I'll make sure and hook it up spot on for you. Anyways this is a sick build dude. Hopefully I'll get to see it soon!
I also have a project of my own that has been going on for a couple years. Its sitting in my garage, come see it sometime. Its an FD.

vernal, yea the front has a little pos camber because i have not aligned it yet.
reactor, i might take you up on that offer for the alignment unless i end up doing it at work. I work at the local dodge dealer (Karmart). Either way i will swing by your work so you can see it.
reactor and jobestudios are you guys going to golden gardens??
Well the car should be on the road on tuesday so that I can get the exhaust hung a little higher since it is only about 1.5" off the ground. I also need to get the exhaust lengthened so that itisn't hiding under the bumper.

I don't know if I will, there are like 20 clean nissans that we've all seen before and then a bunch of the haggard ziptied variety, nothing wrong with that, just dont want to drive an hour and a half to see it...
Plus my car isnt excactly running...

I was finally able to get the car out on the road for a real test drive. Amazingly it drove beautiful with no issues. I don't have the boost controller hooked up yet so i was running striaght off the wastegate. The car boosted up wonderful and drove super smooth. There is a significant amount of bump steer because of how low the car is ( you can barly fit your shoe under the front bumper). I think I am going to try to switch to a 225/45 or 245/45 for the front instead of the 215/40 i have now so that I can raise the front some more off the ground. I was able to make it to the exhaust shop as well so my sunken and sagging exhaust has been fixed. Well here are some pics of the car rolling and the new ride height. I raised the rear of the car a little more than an inch and the front got lowered about a 1/4 inch to eliminate some of the wheel gap. I also started to clen the interior. I am working on a little project for my door panels to replace the horrible fabric section that is there from the factory. The last pic is a little teaser. If anyone has any other ideas on how to raise the fornt without a significant amount od wheel gap let me know.
