Solid lifters
Newer motor
Pull type clutch..yada yada

I'm impressed! Looks great. I feel for you on the harness. I waited almost a year for a megasquirt harness I had being built. I had to write a letter to the BBB and the Missouri Attorney General. Only then, after legal involvement and a lot of stressful phone calls did I get it. Motherfucker still owes me an EDIS too...
Hope all goes well for you.

What's the Head drain for?
supposed to help "trapped" oil in the head return down to the sump faster.
rb's have a problem with excess oil in the head during sustained high rpms.
their's a fitting that's probably more effective, but i just worked with summit for the 90. kinda wished i waited for something cleaner like this
http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n106/project89silvia/rear_oil_drain.gif
just pop out the upper freeze plug and stick it over

Those drains don't really work to well imo.
We did it on the Z and it didn't really help. Two 10ANs from each Valve Cover to the pan and there was no change in oil pressure drop through the corners.

did your z have an rb? also did it have an upgraded oil pump?
it's pretty common amongst the guys on SAU.
it helps to take additional steps to help the oil return back to the pan.
1.Block off one oil feed in the block (RB26’s have this standard)
2.Fit an appropriately sized restrictor to the other feed. The size of the oil pump is one of the determinates for the size of the restrictor, ie; a high flow, high pressure pump needs a smaller restrictor. Constant higher RPM needs a smaller restrictor etc.
3. Fit an external oil return from the rear of the cylinder head to the sump
4. Drill out the oil return galleries in the head and block
5. Machine around the oil return galleries to facilitate access for the oil
i've done 2 & 3 :-/
may be overkill but doesn't hurt

thx man, just curious who did you harness??
Um...Mark Gearhart? I had found him on Club4ag. He worked out of some shop in Florida as a freelancer. His specialty was Megasquirt n spark with EDIS for 4AGE 20v Silver tops. He also was known for swapping SR20's into AE86's.
What I got from him was damn good work. He just played games with me for almost a year and shorted me $150 worth of stuff. All together everything was just shy of $1000
I sent him a full stock AE86 wire harness (new)
All my 20 valve sensor clips
My Megasquirt n spark to program
My stimboard in case he needed it
Money for harness build, MS programming and testing and a complete EDIS 4 system.
After months and month and months of nothing and playing phone tag run around bullshit, I got my MS back and nothing else. And it wasn't even programmed!
Then a few months later I got my harness. The EDIS was shipped but never got to me and I guess he didn't insure it. So I lost $125 in the end.
It took so long for him to do the work I had to sell the car and write a contract stating I would hand over the harness and MS when it was all there. Pain in my ass... :smash:

01-27-2008, 10:11 PM
ahh i have this motor, damn didnt know there was another company for clutches..your keeping the pull type?
slow40
01-27-2008, 10:15 PM
yeah it's still pull type,
i had a shop rework the stock pressure plate to accept the somewhat "cheap" disk, just to get the car running. rated at 450 ft lbs.
soon as i up the boost i'll be replacing with an Exedy Hyper single.
is that original paint on the car? or a repaint?
sorry, I know I am supposed to be more amazed with the rb25 got side tracked.. it's just so shiny and perfect
nice 350z track wheels btw
hopefully that harness comes soon
slow40
01-28-2008, 12:14 AM
i just washed it that day before i pulled the motor.
not sure man, to be honest with you..i thought so too
when i bought it, it looked stupid clean for original paint
but i looked for overspray, checked inner fenders, carfax came up good.
no wrecks, i'm 3rd owner.
they may have just waxed her real good???
although one of the mirrors is extra faded, almost a different red

What fans did you go with?
ps interesting your old rusty water pump was a RB20 pump (no slotted hole).. Wonder if nissan did that from the factory or someone just threw it on there.
GL with the rest of the project keep us updated.

i went with FAL 12 pushers, i wanted to run pullers but clearance wasn't as good as i'd hoped.

o werd...
as promised here's the walkaround vid.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=T4FVSusJumg
i have a fuel leak in the video, ha caught it as i was shutting the hood...whew. new line is on.
catch can will be on soon. the ticking is from a bad valve seat due to Revolutionary Performance not setting the right clearances i believe.
don't think it'll damage anything, just annoying as fvck and i'm not getting 100% outta my cams. probably take it up there sometime this week.
i will say though, it's pretty responsive. i've put about 60 miles on it. it's so easy to get going even out of boost. fell in love with the car all over again
i wanna put the power fc on and start playing with it a little bit, hopefully eliminate what appears to be fuel cut and adjust some settings.
other than that, just glad to drive it again, been sitting since last august..
