UPDATE post 7

my shit broke.

I pulled up to my friends house with the sunroof all the way back and I reached up to close it and it wouldn't close.

I forced it closed by grabbing the glass and tugging it forward.

The motor turns when I press the back or forward or up and down buttons.
The glass only moves when push the button to have it go back inside the roof, it won't move forward again. or Up, or down.

the FSM doesn't detail much about it so I wondered if any of you folks have fixed this issue and how you did it.

peace

There's a tool in the jack bag for manual closure. In the meantime, swap the switch with a known working one, it snaps out easily. If the switch goes well, the track is probably out of alignment or bent.

Mine went out a couple months ago. The nylon gears in the motor had worn out and it was doing something similar to yours.

I don't have the jack bag anymore. I just forced it closed with my big ol' man hands. haha

you say swap the switch like its easy to find one.

How would I go about re-aligning the track?

shitty.. well if a different switch doesn't do it...

Dude, I threw out over a dozen switches last month in the move. I can't sell them if I wanted to. Find another car locally and borrow it for a sec.

If that doesn't work, I have three complete assemblies, PM me.

UPDATE:

So I started taking things apart today and I confirmed that the glass IS off the track. The reason it goes back with the motor is because the track pushes it back.

It won't close forward because the track doesn't pull the glass. The track itself moves forward leaving the glass behind. (I watched it by looking at it with my head poking out the sun roof.)

So my glass is off the track. How do I fix this?

New assembly. The track is broken, can't be fixed.

With the headliner out you'll clearly see it. There's M6 studs around the perimeter of the assembly, along with four brackets. There's also a forward bracket above the motor. They all come out, roof drops out easily.

Take the glass out first though, close it fully (you may have to damage the assembly more, no worries), there's a plastic screw in clip at the rear corner of the glass lid, remove it, then pop the plastic side covers off. You'll now see six M6 nuts, remove and lift the glass straight out. Cake.
