Well since everyone is crying about starting a new Nor Cal thread, maybe i'll break the ice and actually make one. Here we will talk about Upcoming Fall and Winter Meets, any Website Releated News, and any other stuff you guys want to talk about.
So let me start off by saying we should start and think up some ideas for a Meet 3 sometime around early next month or something. Or do a Zilvia Halloween Meet. HAH. That would be cool. So just post up ideas and we can vote later.
This is just to start off the Thread.. I'll think up more stuff to talk about. Btw my Brithday is Tomorrow (monday) YAY. but i still have to go to College =(
Peace.

Happy birthday Steven!
Haha dress up your car... LOL! Well for those who are interested, maybe we can have a small Halloween meet. I was thinking me and my friends should go trick-or-treating (never too old!) with our helmets on. Yeah we probably wouldn't be able to hear each other too well but it's just an idea. ^o^
I think we should set the next big meet for mid-November. Personally I'd prefer having the meet before Thanksgiving week 'cuz I think many people, including myself, might want that week to be with family and old friends. And since the last two meets were both on Sundays, maybe we should set the next one for a Friday or Saturday. And the last two meets were in Milpitas and Mountain View, so if you guys don't mind let's rule out Santa Clara County if we stick to the Bay Area.
November 8, 9, 15, or 16?
Bay Area or no?
If Bay Area: around Hayward, San Mateo, Oakland, or San Francisco?
If not Bay Area: Sacramento or ... what else is out there in NorCal? :P

Don't worry Dan, me and Bill will be looking into organizing a track day. If we get enough people to go and a pay a fee we can get it going. Bill said to talk to Tim from Speedtrial to see if he can set up a Track Day for us Nor Cal Peeps. So for right now, how many people would be interested. Am shooting for a Nov, but if we can't am looking for a Dec. School break week. How about it? Just post up.

i just wanna say, i dont really like streets of willow too much....but i will suggest Thunderhill....it is an awesome track, very very nice place, downside is that the skidpad is crappy, but the good side is that the skidpad doesnt interfere with the track, so they dont have to section it off like they do at SOW. i went there in January, and it was rainy in the morning, and sunny in the afternoon, so it was almost like running on 2 different tracks in one day. off the hook! skidpads are awesome in the rain, and the track in general was kool with rain, the only thing that sucks is that you have to keep ur windows open and it might get kinda wet. OH WELL. but yeah a track day would be nice in a couple months so i can save some money. but yeah i just wanna say, its kinda far away but it is definitely a beautiful track...alot faster than SOW and not as freakin hot... my $.02
OH and im down for a little Halloween meet, haha, that would be fun...we could dress up as drifters haha...

yeah, i believe its one fixed price for a day at the track...so the more people, the less it costs, but also dont forget that the more people the more crowded the track would be.
also, this is just straight track time, not like NASA where you cang et instruction or anything, so you may want to keep that in mind.

One of the things that new track people should keep in mind is that an S95 or S2000 rated helmet is required. It costs a couple hundred dollars and up. You will NOT want to share a helmet with someone else! The helmet can get very sweaty, and I'm sure you don't wanna soak your head in somebody else's sweat. x_x So if you don't have an S rated helmet, be sure that you'll be able to get one if you plan on going to the track.

But since you guys are my friends, I guess I can lay out $200 and go with you guys. Just hope you don't mind if I bring my mom along to drive. Please don't get offended if she passes some of you newbs. She's pretty good.

We've been having a lot of meets in Santa Clara County. :P I dunno, maybe every other meet should be in the South Bay, since most of us seem to be from that area. Or every third meet or something.
How about Candlestick Point State Recreation Area? It's that park right next to 3Com Park (Candlestick Park) in San Francisco. Great view of the Bay (if you like looking at water) and plenty of parking spaces. It has picnic tables and barbecue grills but I dunno if you people want another BBQ. Maybe a potluck this time, or drinks only, and I don't mean alcohol. Anyway, just an idea.

Hmmm, someone at the meet said something about Malbu Grand Prix or something like that. Maybe we should look into that. Since Wind and its getting cold soon we should stop with the bbq's. Since most people already have meet and stuff we should start to have fun now. And Go Karting sounds like a good idea. Maybe if we get the same people as last meet the cost will go down to have the place for our selves.. what you think? Come on guys post up ideas. The Track Meet should be postponed til next year since everyone is kind of nervous with the rain. I am, don't want to run off the track. Peace

Can you find out stuff like group rates and having the whole place to ourselves for a day?
I'm going to e-mail and ask Speedring also.
From Speedring's FAQ:
Is there a minimum age?
Yes. At this time, the age limit is 18 with a valid drivers license. This is done to prevent generating a "hangout" for teenagers. There are also insurance reasons.

Hey guys, i have been busy the past 2 days but here is the new info!
I got an Email back from Tommy at Speedtrial got some good news (i think).
Here is the deal.
the only date we will be up north will be the sears
point raceway now called infineon raceway december
27-28,2002.
normally our sears point is required to have a 2day
event at ($375). however, it is a fairly large track
and i can extend a one day to u guys. half of the 2
day price is $188. if u can bring all 25 or more guys
to pariticpate, we will discount u all $18 making the
total for the one day at $170. this is a chance to
finally drive on this track for such a low price.
have your guys think about it and let me know. if
interested, ill arrange payement.
So basicly 1 day at "Sears Point" for $170..... Thats seems pretty sweet to me. Let me know so I can work out the details with him. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
fodive

that sounds good to me.
ive got three people interested in coming, so my head count for the event would be 4.
i also talked to my buddy, and he said that for 30 people, it was $180 each to rent out Thunderhill for the day, and that we should call and find out how from them. so there is another option, let me know if you want to do that, i'll email/call them

Well the SpeedTrial event should be pretty sweet. I am just putting together a list right now to make sure we have enough people, then I will Let Tommy at SpeedTrial know so we can work out the details and work out payment.
So Far this is my list.

</table>
Now let me know if you wantin so I can add you to the list. And since I dont know everyones name yet tell me so I can get that in the list as well.
I will continue to update this list, so fell free to let me know how many people you think will be able to come. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

You cant use a Motorcycle helmet, you need an SN95 or better i think, but it would be stupid to get an SN95 cuz they will be replaced with the SN2000. So basicly you need an SN2000 rated helmet.

You can still kill two birds with one stone by getting an SA2000 helmet. :P You can also use it at Speedring if it's a full-face helmet, so maybe that's killing three birds with one helmet. Err...stone. Blah. Anyway if I remember correctly, the most affordable full-face SA2000 helmets are generally about $300+.

hi.
count me IN.
OK u can't use a motorcycle helmet at the racetrack. u can use one at autocross, but for track events u must have a Snell SA (special applications) rated helmet! these helmets are different due to their nomex lining and fire resistance, unlike motorcycle helmets which are cheaper and made from different materials. i got my helmet from a shop in Oakland called Bell Motorsports. the people over there are really cool, and they sell all kinds of racing gear and if you buy multiple items, they give u price breaks. so i would recommend buying from there if possible, the phone # is (510)536-2355. there are a few websites that sell helmets too, such as www.helmetcity.com which is also based in Oakland, but i went to their warehouse and they wouldnt sell me a helmet there because they said they only do online selling. theres no store front, its just a regular car repair shop but they have a storage room FULL of helmets hehe. Sears Point sounds great! cant wait til december.... <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/withstupid.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':withstupid:'>

Bill: if you cant make it, thats no big deal...and anyways that is just a tentative date, if it would be better to do it on a saturday or sunday, i can try and arrange that, i just gotta make sure the shop will be open. the whole reason for having everyone go is so that people can try on the stuff before they buy it, but its not a necessity, of course we can work somethin out if u cant make the trip. so far i think i have 5 people who want to buy a helmet, so sounds like ive already met the minimum requirement.
Mr Migs: kool man, im going too, do you know what hotel you are gona stay at? maybe we can all get rooms near each other, or just share a room for cheap. let me know! im still not sure if im gona participate, if anything i MIGHT go on the skidpad, but im definitely gona go to take pics and shoot some video.

Usually, the instructors won't let you get that close to another person on the turns... As far as I know, your only insurance is the insurance you have normally.
Unfortunately, I probably won't be able to make it because of the timing (too close to new years and christmas and I might be in Vegas that weekend <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'> )

I'm not sure if auto insurance covers for damages that happen at the track. Maybe each one is different. *Shrug* Wheel to wheel racing is probably not allowed but I don't think they stop anyone from tailgating, even at turns. At least that's how it seemed at the only track event I've been to.
BadMoJo
10-24-2002, 12:26 AM
In almost every case I know of insurance does not cover anything on the track, your on your own.
And SR20 is right, it can't be moved around like that. we would have to setup a different date/track all together. so I figured this was a good time. People are not in school and maybe off from work, home for the week.... that kinda stuff. I am going regardless i hope. So we just need as many people as possible. SPREAD THE WORD!!! This is cool deal, dont let it go to waste.

Hey Nissan_driver24, we just have a BBQ meet a few weeks ago. We already had 2-3 meets and we want to change the direction a little bit and go for the track date. I do agree that we should put the track date next year. Cause most peeps don't have enough money, and if they start to save up this month then they'll have enough next year.. So i don't know, am going to a job interview in like 10 mins so i don't know if i would be able to go to track date. Cause i too need money. haha. Peace

170 dollars is not a lot of money. Granted you will spend more, but you should all be able to come up with this. If you have a job at least. Are you too lazy to find something around the house to sell on ebay? Can you not walk downtown and pick up change of the street? What about the change in your ashtray or couch cushions? I know you can all come up with the money, if you put forth the effort. Its not like this track event is a million dollars or anything.

Alright heres what you do. You can rent a helmet, but you're going to want to buy a bottle of febreeze. Thats like 3.50, so add that to the 170. Now for Xmas gifts, go to albertsons (or other grocery store) and buy a bag of charcoal. Put this in stalkings. You can also buy the febreeze there. This should be about 6.00, so now your total is 179.50 Tell your family that money was extremely tight because you had to pay extra rent or power bills or something. They wont hate you because at least you had a sense of humor to buy coal <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

BadMojo, sorry but I'm not signed up for the one in December. Its a bit too close to Xmas for me and I think I'm going on a snowboarding trip during that week.
Did someone mention about insurance?
From all my experience, your car insurance will not cover anything that happens on the track. When you race on the track, you'll sooner or later sign a waiver stating that, either during online registration or when you get to the event. Track usually don't allow passing in turns, it's dangerous and you'll get black flagged (I know, I did it, got black flagged and had to stay out for a few laps). But if all goes well, you shouldn't be concerned with insurance. Just don't be a crazy ass nut and try to push your car beyond your or its limits. Doing that only puts other people and cars in danger.

This might sound silly but ... can I borrow someone's rear S14 anti-roll bar for the November 2-3 weekend? I've signed up for the car control (drift) run group at the upcoming SpeedTrialUSA event and not having a rear sway bar for it kinda bites. (Base model S14 has a front sway bar but no rear one, which means heavy understeer. I'll need to oversteer.) If someone in the Bay Area can lend me one (stock or aftermarket, doesn't matter), I'd really appreciate it.
Edit: Nevermind. =) Found one. Thanks Bob.

If I remember when I was last at Thunderhill, I was one of the only guys to 'rent' a helmet when I was there. (Came in handy that day too... heh)
Anyway, I think the cost was like $20 and they wanted a deposit (license/keys/credit card), but I know for sure it was $20. After that, I bought my helmet cuz I know it'll be worth it and good for another 7 yrs.
As for the course, it is a real racetrack... I think it was in one of the Cadilla comercials... dunno which car was featured... maybe the CTS? Anyway, that's the course. But its easy to use Yahoo/Google and put in a search for "Thunderhill Raceway", right? <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sarcasm.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':sarcasm:'>
If you're in Sacramento, you're close to it. I'm not sure if I'm going to go... but like everyone says, X-mas means buying gifts and I still want new rims/tires before I subject my car to the track. Please keep us updated!!

Infineon (Sears Point) is a REAL course by all means. it is one of two road courses used by the NASCAR Winston Cup Series, and it is a big time sort of place, hence the $170 price tag which is a bit above average for most track days. should be worth it though.

I will ask a couple of my frineds if they are interested!! i feel bad i missed the bar-b-q but i will make up for it with this!! but b4 i go i would like to know if anyone around the bay area could meet up with me at least a week or so in advance and help me make-sure my car is well tuned for the track, like what i need to make sure of so my car can pass thei insepection or whateverf, speaking of which maybe we should have a preliminary meet-up to discuss what we will be running, etc. who might race who, etc. things that just would take too long to discuss on this thread!!

Hey Dennis. Welcome to the board. How old are you? Just wondering cuz you sound young. :P I'm from 510 also so maybe we'll meet up sometime. I'm thinking of having a very small 240SX meet next month where we actually go for a drive (approx 30 miles). Kind of an unofficial meet. Anyway I'll post more about that later.

Well, we will need to have our cars tech inspected before the track day, I will get some details on this in a few days. And as far as "who will race who" <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/eh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':eh:'> Thats not really how open track days work at SpeedTrial events. go here for info http://www.speedtrialusa.com/ CHeck out the "About Us" section. It give you a good idea of what they are all about. Also check the safety section for good info on the flags and such. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

Hey, my real name is Greg, I met some people at the meet, but I got there late. I would like to meet up with some guys to make sure I will pass tech too, since I will have to tech at the track because I'm in Socal for school. Sometime in December would be nice since I won't be coming up there for break until Dec. 5th or 6th. By the way, how many people going to this are newbies to track events and how old are most of us? I think it would just be good to know what experience levels we are dealing with. Wow, no offence esper, but I expected you to be younger. You get so excited about stuff, and that's cool, I just thought you were younger, sorry. If you want a nice drive in the Bay area, then you can always take hw 9 or Skyline Blvd. I used to drive those a lot since I am from the Santa Cruz area, I also used to drive into Bonny Doon a lot, if you know where that is. Just be careful, during the day and into the evening, there are often biciclists and it's hard to see them around blind turns. All of those are great drives though, Skyline is a bit longer than the others. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/alien.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':alien:'>

I'm just noticing that there's a lot of autoX events and gatherings going on. I'm off to ButtonWillow this weekend with some fresh Falken Azenis to burn on my FC. Since I see so may people going to autox soon, if anyone needs tires for their cars, please hit me up. Seeing how I work for an auto company, I can most likely help anyone needing any brand of tires get some for a good price. Azenis, potenzas, maybe slicks, or some others.
PM me or email is the best to contact me.

I think Bill has already covered this. It's not going to be a race.
You'll basically be driving in a line for most of the track, and you'll only be able to pass at certain straightaways when the person in front of you signals you to pass. The main purpose for going to a track event like this is not to race but to test you and your car's limits, which you wouldn't be able to do at most other places without risking getting into serious accidents. At the track, if you somehow end up losing control and spin off the track, which isn't unlikely, you'll most likely just get a bunch of dust in your car (cuz the windows have to be down). It's a great place to test out and improve your driving skills.
Anyway I wanna set up a casual driving meet for mid-November, most likely in the East Bay, so maybe you can meet us there. Bicycle routes are great to drive on. Nice turns, nice scenery. You just have to watch out for bicyclists. :P

I'll be driving there with other people early Saturday morning. Yes, very early. -_-; BTW I'm letting Pat (1996 S14) take my place cuz none of my new suspension parts have arrived. I don't really wanna be in the car control run group on stock suspensions X_x so I'm just gonna watch. (Bill he wanted to be in the car control group sooo ... yah. :P) Not sure if I'll be staying for Sunday, but probably not.

About the Sears Point Event on 12/28...
The $170 price per person is only guaranteed if we get at least 25 people right? I know you spoke of refunds as well as the fact that the group will run rain or shine, but what is the price if we only get 20 or even 24 people? I have no idea if we'll even get the 25 people, but what if 24 people agree to go, what would that price be? Would it be the proposed $188/person that you stated before? If we only get 15 people, is it only $188/person? Yeah I know, weird question... but it would be cool to get a track full of 240's only.
I just basically wanted to know what the total price is to get the track and if people were dedicated enough (like the 10 people who are currently in for it now), would they all spilt the costs?

you might wanna check that address...3227 looks like a residential block. highland hospital is around there and there's nothing but residential buildings in the area. oakland zip codes start with 946xx. 945xx would be alameda.
check the address and make sure you've entered it correctly because oakland has all kinds of numbered streets...
i can check the address to make sure it's correct because i go home to oakland just about every weekend.

And said that we should go on a Pick&Pull Meet if anyone is up for it. Cause i need some new tires and so does Mike and so does Matt cause he wants to go too. And i need to get a few parts aswell, but just wanted to put the word out that next weekend we'll be heading out to the pick&pull junk yard if anyone wants to go. It would be cool having a group going to the junk yard and flame on the old civics with Honda Power Stickers on them LOL.. Let me know. Peace.

3227 is the correct address, and yes it is in the middle of a residential area...its that sorta long white building right near the freeway. i recognize that area from the aerial shot since ive been there before. hmmmm, well it might be tough to arrange pick n' pull and helmet buying meeting since i was just planning on heading to the PnP here in stockton, which is a couple hours from oakland where the helmets are. i dont really wanna have people going out of their way and running back and forth from the valley to the bay and what not...but hey if anyone really wants to, its fine. we would have to go to PnP early, then head out to oakland and get the helmets and what not before they close at 5:30. i'll call pick n pull to see if there are any sale days like 1/2 off day or something in the near future and we can revolve around that. but usually the 1/2 off days are on saturdays, and the helmet place is open only mon-fri. maybe we can have an overnite slumber party sleepover super happy action fun meet? woohoO!
any suggestions? <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

we need a minimum of 5 people i believe, but its a pretty decent price. its not a HUGE discount, but its definitely less than you would pay for a helmet anywhere else. its about a 15% discount, meaning the Bell Sport II helmet at regular price is 300, we get it for 255, so its not so bad. keep in mind we dont all have to buy the same thing, just as long as its placed on the same order. i already can almost guaruntee that we have enough people for the group buy, so the more the merrier. woohoO!

Borrowing a helmet for autocross isn't that bad, since each run is usually less than two minutes, as opposed to like 20 minutes at the track in desert weather. I borrowed somebody else's helmet for my first autocross cuz they were out of loaner ones.

I'm applying for a second job tomorrow. If I get hired, I'm signing up for December 28 for sure. =)

I may be able to go to this one... I have a couple of friends who might be interested as well. BTW, I don't remember if it has to be 240 tho... Also, is there an instructor for each driver? I'll keep you posted on this.

As far as I know, it's not required to be 240's, we are just trying to get as many as we can in the group. Right now, I think we just need people, 240 or not.

Ok, so I can or should print out a registration form (making note of our 170 dollar deal) and mail a check or money order to Speed Trial? I suppose I could do that <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
