View Full Version : Clear hoses?

I have a breather tank on the way
Anyone know where I can get some clear hoses that go from the radiator to the overflow tank? And where can I get the clear radiator hoses, the big ones.
I know home depot has those clear hoses.
But can they withstand the heat? I'm installing a coolant breather tank and was wondering if they'll go bad when hot coolant hits it.

I've had bad luck with the cheap Home Depot clear, reinforced hoses, and now run heater hose from Autozone/etc for all my coolant/oil tanks. Maybe someone else has suggestions of clear hoses that actually can take the heat?

I like the selection at Lowe's. Good enough for showerheads and plumbing - good enough for a breather tank. Cheap too, just takes a while to figure out how to use that frigging tool to cut the hose.

I was thinking about doing this too just wasnt sure if the hoses like jordan said would resist so much heat. any paticular type or model # mano?

I've always had a picture in my mind but never saw anyone run that
I guess it would be useful to see if there are any air bubbles running into the engine

i still cant find the orange sleeved hose for high temp stuff - I ended up just getting the blue aeroquip hose :/
i have the shit in my computer - its way thin for using on a car tho i think.
plus it got all discolored when i had the smaller rad hooked up to it - i got a 2 fan one now (2 80mm fans) and the one peice of new hose (its on hot side) hasnt discolored yet

I haven't seen silicone clear radiator hoses, but there's a guy in the minitruck (*gasp*- I know) industry that makes handblown glass radiator hoses:
http://www.twistedimages-sacramento.com/glass_hoses.jpg
I guess they're actually pretty strong- I know some of the trucks they're on hop and drag frame, which probably shakes the hoses around a bit...
Definitely not cheap, though!

and not too expensive actually. It comes with 6 ft, I stopped by Napa and they want 3.99 per foot. I thought it woulda been $1 a foot for the black stuff...

when i worked in an industrial laundry, we had machines that used clear hose in a similar diameter to radiator hosing. stood up really well to boiling hot water too. that'd be the first place i'd look

you can hook up a funnel to a 5' length of 3/4" hose to do tranny fluid changes. Just pull the plug, insert the hose, pour MTF into funnel, works great.
