View Full Version : Catch can routing for S14 SR20DET

Ok so when I originally put my swap together I plumbed my catch can like this:

This is the way that I have seen most people run it, but after a summer of driving I have seen pretty much NO excess oil built up in the can.
As of lately I came across someone running their catch can like this:

Which makes sense since it is running off of the PCV valve.
SO, what is the correct way of plumbing a catch can on an S14 SR20 motor? And why?

Where's the credit K...?
S14DB told me about the way I had it setup.
Those hoses collapsed on me while at a drift event and I had to rig it up to a stock setup with what I had.
Shortly after, I setup the system with the stock hose setup and a new PCV valve.
The SR engine is made to handle the blow by issue.
Leave it stock.

^^I even thought about it when I grabbed the pic, my bad dude.
So with it plumbed the way you had it, did you even notice any oil in the can?
Where did you order a new PCV valve from, part #?

The second pic looks like the guy was just trying to jerk himself off about "doing it the right way"
I say this because he put about 60$ in gold foil on his exhaust manifold heat sheild on the wrong side so its sheilding the exhaust mani from heat.
a trait of someone pretending to own a racecar.
The first way would work better, the intake manifold will be in boost and have the PCV closed when the most blow by will be happening so the can won't be doing much.

I called Pegasus about the application of the foil, and that is the way they told me to apply it. I learned afterwards the correct way to apply it. Live and learn.

I ordered it from Justin @ Westco Nissan.
I don't have a part number, but he knew what I was talking about.
Instead of running it the way you have it, run the hose from the VC straight down to the intake side of the turbo.

Interesting, I never even thought about the hoses collapsing. what kind of boost/turbo were you running? I've been under the school of thought that with more boost, you will get more blow-by and I didn't want all that oil gunking up the intake (though everytime I've checked recently, it hasnt been that much at all, and I've never had an overall loss in oil level).
