View Full Version : RHD converted to LHD?

I was wondering what would needed to be done to convert a RHD to LHD for a s13/s14

Things that I could think would be:

Dash
everything on the firewall shifted over
brake lines rerouted
pedals
3-4" hole for the steering column

Another question is, in a RHD, would there be the same amount of space for the pedals in the "passenger side" of the s13/s14?

Just like in a LHD car, the passenger side doesn't have the same amount of space where the feet are and there is no foot rest there as well. I'm assuming the same would apply for a RHD 240?

If anyone has done this, please post your experience.

Reason for this conversion is drivability and better condition chassis (no rust)

How about removing all that you desire that is in your RHD chassis and placing it into a LHD shell, thusly preserving ALL structural rigidity and strength, then selling the then unmolested RHD shell to one of these fanboys who may beat their meat at the chance to have it?

^yea and you wont have to worrie about switching all the body tags so that you can register it...

Registering the car is easy as I know a company who imports cars legit. I also live in Canada and maybe things are different here.

It's hard trying to find a mint shell here, too much salt.

Yea, in canada you can import car legit as long as they are 15 years or older i believe. but if you wanted to convert you also have to get a LHD steering rack and make a bunch of holes in that firewall. you might want to do what PHLIP was talking about, a lot less hassle

Dude...if your going to just import it...leave it RHD and save the hassle.

Or in the end...just wait...and find that mint shell. They are out there. But in the end I have tought about the same thing (sort of) importing a silvia/180sx for the mint chassis. But I never thought of converting it to LHD.

it might make more sense to "import" a shell from the US where rust free examples are plentiful and swap over whatever.

and whats so bad about RHD?

Left hand turns in traffic.

so does anyone know how much work is required?

The same amount of work as converting LHD to RHD, which can be found all over the internet in detail. Was your question really necessary?

strip/ reinforce the shell, determine how you are going to cut and replace the firewall. it would easiest to just put a LHD wiring harness in the car at this point, but I am just throwing ideas out there. Making a Silvia or 180sx into a lhd, kinda pointless, there is nothing to gain here, just find yourself a rust free S13 here, they are to be found I promise, it would be cheaper and less of a headache.

A lot more work and structural ruination than it would honestly take to get your hands on a LHD shell, seriously.
And selling that RHD shell without having hacked it all up to shit would more than subsidize the acquisition of a LHD one.

Deal with the left turns in traffic. I do. It's really not worth trying to convert it. If you are that worried. Just buy a LHD car.

I'd do what ayuaddict said buy a car from the southern states instead, they're in much better shape than here. Also in BC and alberta you can find some that are almost perfect, I almost bought one when I was there at one point but I needed something else... (I sooo should have bought it though...)

and then you wont have to worry about the steering conversion...
