My first set of R-Compounds. Gonna be kicking off the new season right! :rawk:

Contacted Toyo about their infamous RA1, but their sizes in 18 are limited. They suggested/offered the R888. Their new up-n-coming and rummored replacment of the RA1.

The only thinng i know about the R888 is that they run about +10mm from whats listed.

Ill be running 235/40 front (8.5"wheel) and 255/35 (9.5" wheel) - which i guess is closer to 245 & 265 :eek3:

Anyone run them personaly or know anyone who does? All ive got so far from searching is a tremendous amount of marketing info and forums talking about the great selection and availability.

Hey, if I remember right, they are the exact same compound as the Ra-1's just a more aggressive tread , I THINK haha. How come you are running so little width? GO WIIIIDEE!!! haha you should go 245 front and 265 back,OR 255 front and 265 back OR 255 ALL AROUND :D all R-compounds run about 5-10mm wider than your normal street tires I believe, even the bridgestone Re-01r's run alittle wider than usual. But damn those tires are expensive haha The most commonly used R-compounds I see are the Toyo Ra-1's and the Nitto Nt-01's both really nice tires I've had both.

Nice car though man maybe I'll see you at this years Nasa events

I saw these tires at SEMA but I don't think they are readily available yet. I think more closer towards the summer I think.

go wide for grip. if that's your blue s14 in the pic, i'd run 265-front and 285-rear. but, good choice in tires. let us know how they work for you.

Thanks for the info. Ive got to get some suspension work/tuning before i go any wider. Already got a bit of rubbing when im killing it at tracks like HTM and the real technical areas of Buttonwillow.

Hope to see you out there too. Got a few of us with NASA already a few more interested i think this year. Youll have no problems finding me out there.

They have mine in stock, so im pretty stoked.

Plus the Toyo rep said that they are more readily available than the RA1's at this time.

haha I dont think anyone will have a problem spotting you at the track. Common man dont go 235's up front at least 245 haha. Right now on my street wheels I'm running 245/45/18 Bridgestone Re-01r's all around just cause I got them for cheap,but they dont rub at all when I'm at the track so I'm sure 245/40/18 in the front would clear no problem and 255/35/18 or 265/35/18 in the rear wouldn't be too much of a problem either with a SLIGHT SLIGHT pull or even just hammering the inside lip might do it.

On my track wheels (enkei rpf1's) I'm running Nitto Nt-01 in 245/40/17's all around. Since my car is just stock with headers intake and exhaust only, I dont really want to run much wider than that. But since you got some nice power you should go wider. WIIIDER WIIIIIDER WIIIIIDER!! haha

Haven't tried them but at 100 tread wear they seem nice. Good for track days... and sticky enough to help you pass cars with street tires even at those narrow widths.

Last time at buttonwillow I only full throttled the car a couple times to pass and down the main straight.

I say pull an AceInHole... beat the living hell out of your fenders, run 18x10s, and throw on some 285/30/18s. :D

Dreaming aside, you would probably be fine with 235/255. But you could also consider 255/35/18 up front and 265/35/18 or 275/35/18 rear since those will be just as short or shorter than 235/40 and 255/35. Just have to work the fenders and get proper backspacing. veilside180sx's custom Konis give lots of clearance if you're thinking about changing suspension.

Aceinthehole 's tire sizing is pretty insane, but for a s14 road race car I dont think you would want to go that wide. You probably would never use up all of the grip unless you had a lot of power and running pretty high high speeds. MAX I'd ever go would be 275/40/17's all around but thats just me haha :D

Hello to the OP, yea I would say go 245 minimum for the front .Based on the last time I saw your car at HTM there are still some things that need to be done to eliminate rubbing & issues, Hell then I was on 245/40 all around on S13 slammed. Im gonna be going to 245/40-275/30-18 Hoosier R6 & they run quite a bit wide(flater width profile) so the 245 is more like a 255/265 street tire after next wknds run

I also agree with your statement about size, this is plenty for the car. I had no understeer issues with the smaller front tire size and was not quite using all the grip the setup had to offer.

Do you ever do any NASA events out east? it would be nice to have another Silvia out there.

I'm digging my NT-01s 255 all around on my S14. If I remember right, Toyo manufactures them and I think the compound is very similar to the RA-1 if not the same...

R888's are sexy! I'm jealous! Seriously though go wider especially in the front. I am running 255/40/17 on all 4 of my s-13, although I am definitely not slammed. I just took a cheap-ass baseball bat and flared my front fenders, I am actually going to use a fender rolling tool for the rears though as they are quite a bit stronger than the fronts.

FAIL.... buldging rubber is gay.. a little stretch never hurt anyone...cause sidewall fold is gay... go 235/40 max front...with a 8J rim...and 255/40- 265/35 with the 9.5J thats plenty of meat...

^^ bulging rubber is the shiz, stretched tires are gay, I've never seen any true dedicated race car that runs stretched tires. I ran somewhat stretched tires on my wheels one time and it just jacks up your rim at the track. The track isn't always clean, sometimes theres like big rocks everywhere that you cant really avoid and when you run over them it hits the lip of the rim and just bends it like a mother. If you got a 8 inch width rim 235 at the LEAST not at MOST

The max I would want to go on a 7" wheel is 225, on an 8" wheel 245, and on a 9"wheel 275. If you go beyond those sizes on those width wheels you are outside the min rim width specs for the tires. That doesn't necessarily mean that you will have any problems, but it does mean that the tire is not DESIGNED to work 100% effectively on that wheel. I just try to stay within the manufacturer's reccomendations. For my next set of tires I plan to run 275/40/17 NT01's on my 9" wheels, unless I can find an affordable r-compound 275 with a 35 sidewall. Seriously though fuck stretch! This is the WRONG thread to be preaching any amount of stretch. There are absolutely no proven performance gains to stretching. Leave stretch to the drifters and fan-boys!
