Starter/Relay problem

1.I can't start my car was wondering if you can tell if its the starter/clutch relay or the starter? I don't hear a click from the solenoid area but I do hear a click from the relay area.
2.Any way to bypass the relay other than connecting the pos terminal of the battery to the solenoid using a jump cable or something? I'm hesitant to try out this method.
3.Is it possible to use a wire and just connect the 2 female ends together sort of like a home made relay?

Lee I'm having the same problem with my car. I had the problem happen once before. sounds like the relay. let me give you some advise buy a new one  i bought a used one and that's why I'm having the same problem
again. ( It's not the starter)
