So I've been having problems with my 240's (98 SE) alarm system. I finally went to the head mechanic at my local Nissan dealer, and he said that the sensors in the door and under the hood wear out. I'm sorry i looked in my repair manual and i can't figure out what they are called right now. So i ordered the sensors and i got the ones for the door, but they said that no one makes the ones for under the hood anymore and that the Dealer can't get them for me. Does anyone know where i might be able to find one? The only other option that i came up with was to find a junker s14, and taking its sensor. The problem with that is that it too might be worn out. Thanks for all the help and support guys :)

i think thats my only option, if the dealer can't get it for me. I was hoping someone knew a website that maybe sold them.

i think it would be better just to get a aftermarket alarm

Unless the internal contacts within the switch have rusted out, (which means exposure to water), usually door & hood switches don't go bad, (unless the protective rubber grommet has gone bad that is). With that said, has the Nissan mechanic tried the following?? 1). Clean the switch with electrical contact cleaner? Sometimes they can get dirty...I doubt it since they are sealed. 2). Test the switch for functionality thru the use of an ohm meter / continuity tester?? Cleaning them out with contact cleaner may solve the problem 3). Made sure there are no electrical shorts in the wiring leading up to the door & hood switches?? Using electrical test leads to open & close the circuit like the door & hood switch does allows you to test the wiring & 4). Tested the car alarm / smart entry control module (or whatever it's called), to make sure it's functioning properly?? Only way to do that is find somebody with a S14 & swap parts.
Unfortunately, when it comes to Nissan dealerships, unless the mechanic is very meticulous & thorough and looking out for YOUR best interest, they'll usually just swap out parts hoping that the swap will fix the problem. Sometimes their assumptions are wrong.....don't ask me how I know this...hahaha..
Anyhow, you might want to give your Nissan dealership a call back and ask them if they performed any of the previously mentioned items. Or you can perform the test yourself if you know how or know somebody that does.
In the meanwhile, let me check my garage & see if I have any of those parts lying around....

It should just be a sealed button, might even be able to find something at radioshack on online at digikey.com that would work. But, I'll bet you could turn one up at a local junkyard. Probably similar to other models too.

If you don't really care about that sensor, and just want to get the alarm working again, you can tie together (or leave open, not sure which, check the fsm wiring) the two wires going to it and get rid of the sensor.
