Clunking noise on my s14

Whenever I suddenly step on the clutch and release fast. I hear a loud clunk from the back of the car. I almost wanna say it sounds like its coming from the rear end, but I cant say for sure. what could it be.

Prob. just subframe bushings as is pretty much allways the case in the S chassis. I hope you searched a bit on the forum...i know someone is gonna give you a bit of crap if you didn't. But you can purchase "collars" from many sources for cheap which are just inserts to pick up the slack from where the factory worn bushings have gapped over time. Tends to be more apparent in the car after you stiffen up the suspension. Good luck bud! :)

Sorry to hijack the thread so-to-speak but I have a similar problem with my '93 S13 coupe, ka motor with no major modifications to trans, engine, or differential. What I am experiencing is when I go from a dead stop in 1st gear and get on it hard (say 0-20 mph at approx. 4500 rpm) i feel a very noticable "banging" right under my feet. So imagine feeling a small gnome banging with a hammer quickly from under the car while it is driving... Anyway, I can't replicate it in other gears. Any ideas?

Collars are a nice and easy idea b/c they slide into place vs having to remove your subframe and cut out your old bushings to install th new Aluminum/Urethane ones. The collars work in conjuntion with the factory worn bushings. I used aluminum collars and have had no problems for 2 yrs now. If you are going to be competitive with the car i would recomend replacing the entire bushing though as Maveric stated.

there should be a write-up for the solid bushings. but its easy jack the sub frame, loosen bolts, install collars ,tighten, have fun

^^^ yup jack it up and use a pry bar to get the collars in. i did it by myself in about 30 mins. By far the cheapest and easiest fix i've done on the car.

If your subframe bushings are completely gone, then the metal collars may not sit correctly. If thats the case, use the URAS "pineapple" bushings. Whiteline also makes something similar, which is also easier to get here in the states.

^^^Good call on the SPL. My subframe clunk got so bad my GF thought someone/something was in my trunk trying to get out haha :)

Now i have another clunk (rotational) from my damned driveshaft!! Aparently it wasn't a good idea to swap in an ABS LSD to a Driveshaft from a non ABS equipped S14? ha oh well. I live and learn.

Please whatever you do, do not do what I did and buy the master bushing kit. Unless they have changed the front tension rod bushing, it has caused my front a-arms to crack twice. Just save up a bit more and go with the nismo bushings.

The reasoning in you chunking is because of the sub-frame bushing is pretty much beat the crap up or split. So why you don't shift smoothly your sub frame is basically smack your car.
