Cus if you get busted you're in deep shit.

Plus, some of the time, it's dangerous and annoying to the people whose streets your racing on.

Thats about it... if you're doing shit in an isolated area, I dont think there's a problem. It's still illegal and you'll be in deep shit if you're busted, but at least it doesnt affect anyone more than yourself.

Yeah plus when you race in the streets it is usally at night and say you dont see some one or something in the road you can seriously hurt someone. If you are in an isolated area well that is still skeptical due to the fact if someone gets hurt whos gonna help then cus no one knows where you are.If you have an ich for racing go to a track is your best bet there are times whee it is open to the public for real cheap.I know some people are like an hour away but hell at least your safe right.

1. It is illegal (although that seems to be the draw).

2. It is dangerous. Frankly, I don't care if the average streetricer wants to off himself. The world is probably better off w/o him. BUT, I drive on the streets too. I don't want some jackass kid (most street racers are under 21) with NO REAL EXPERIENCE travelling at 100 mph on a road that is safe for no more than 15 over the speed limit. Unless he grew up racing shifter karts, he doesn't have the experience for that. More importantly, I don't want to be hit/don't want my friends to be hit, etc. You don't have to try to hard to see stories about people, both innocent and stupid killed b/c some fvcktard in a 150 hp car needed to feel good about the fact that he hasn't developed chest hair yet.

3. Insurance rates. Like it or not, we are all, to some extent, in the same insurance pool as 240 owners. If Stunna A races and gets in a massive collision that totals his car, my rates go up b/c it is deemed a dangerous car. Ditto reckless tickets. I pay enough already.

4. Unwated attention from the boys in blue. Streetricers attract attention. Cops notice. Cops then hassle people w/ the same car b/c of the attention those others created. If I'm doing a safe 10 over, I don't want to be the guy who gets the ticket b/c I'm in "one of those cars that kids drive too fast in." Like it or not, cops go on historical experience. (odds are, the guy w/ the gun is a killer; the guy w/ a bullet wound is doing something wrong; the kid in the fast car speeding will only go faster). I don't need heat for someone else's stupid mistakes.

5. You don't prove anything. If you take down a Supra on the highway, what did you prove? That you were faster - not if he is smarter. That you are a better driver - Was he really trying? That your car is faster - see above? You know jack about this guy, if he cares, his car, or his skills. People brag about beating Civics. So? Were they trying? Are they a bad driver? Can you tell? In the end, you don't really get to say anything more than "I went faster than some person in a car that looked faster/slower than mine for a certain distance. I can't tell if he was trying or just driving. He may be a crappy driver. He may have an auto."

6. TAKE IT TO THE TRACK! Want to go somewhere where a win is a win because you know the person was trying? Want to be able to see how fast someone's car is right on the windows? Want to be sure that you are beating someone with enough skill to go racing? Want to make sure how fast you were going with a verifiable time slip? TAKE IT TO THE TRACK. A drag strip or autox is way cheaper than even one ticket. Heck, you can go to a track day for far less than one ticket + insurance boost.

While you are there, you will have the time of your life - you will get to actually drive you car at the limits! You will have safety people so that should something happen, you wil get immediate care. You will make friends that have the same interest and no what the hell their talking about. And you will have something to prove how fast you are with other people who can drive and actually care. Better still, you can see how you skill is when you first got there and you can monitor your improvements.

In the end, there's no reason to street race. You get all the same rush and then some at the track. More important, in the long run, it will be cheaper and safer. I might not be Vin Diesel cool - but for the fun it gives me, I can't imagine being proud of whooping the ass of some guy in a rice-mobile.

I think you'll find that on this forum, there are a lot of people who really like to DRIVE their cars - not just pimp them. We've got people that autox and are competing for regional trophies, people that have damb fast drag cars, and a fair contingent of people who run road tracks like Road America, Watkins Glen, Mid-Ohio, Gingerman, and VIR. Check out some of the posts on these subjects and you'll see people that live near you and can get you involved.

Once you go TRACK, you'll never go BACK. Mark

Excellent job Mark.  Great words of Wisdom, and advice.

From experience..  I have street raced, and driving at a real track is So much more fun..  When you race a street race, and win..  you feel good, but still somewhat empty when its done.  When you race a track event, the high goes on for Days.  You can think of nothing but, "How could I improve turn in on 3b?"  "Could I have done turns 1 & 2 as 1 turn and improved my speed out of 2?"

It truly is a rush of not only adrenaline, but information, and knowledge.

"yeah but you can't make money or get a pink slip at the track".

i love that line.  makes me think street racing is all about seeing who's $200 1983 Celica can reach the speed limit faster.  In that case, street racing is fine by me.  Just try not to spill oil on the road.  That's when it gets dangerous.
