i have a 96 240sx base model. I was considering going to a junkyard and converting over to the 5 lug se hubs in order to upgrade my brakes to some 300zx rotors and calipers without having to have them machined toa 4 lug bolt pattern. I was wondering if any of you had 1) done this and was it worth it, 2) knew exactly what i would need to do it...just the hubs, full spindle, or what, and 3) if you thought it was worth the trouble or should i just have the 300zx rotors machined to fit?

Welcome to Zilvia.net!
Since this seems to be your first post, I let you in on a little secret. No one is replying, because this is a very frequent question. This is one of those topics that comes up every few weeks, and gets discussed over and over. Its not that were assholes, or are ignoring you because your new. Its just that you can only answer the same question so many times. Do a search for 5 lug conversion, and/or 300zx brake upgrade, and you'll come up with tons of info.
But to answer your questions:
1) No I haven't, I have a base '98 and I'm still thinking about it.
2) I believe just the hubs if its from an s14. Not sure if they're from an s13, but i think just the hubs. 300zx you may need it all. - more in this in other threads.
3) It all depends. You will have to get new wheels, and don't forget, your spare tire is a 4 lug too. It will make the brake upgrade easier, but then you need new wheels at the same time. So in some ways yes, in some ways no. Like I said, I'm still thinking about it. I'm leaning towards just staying 4-lug, but its a personal preferance.
Also, check out the second page of the FAQs/Archive forum there's a good topic about the 300zx upgrade with a parts list.
Here's a link: 300zx Brake Upgrade FAQ (http://www.zilvia.net/f/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=6;t=8812)
Good luck. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

i have done both i first did the 300zx brake upgrade and redrilled my own rotors but found the rims i had wouldnt clear the calipers so my only option was to go 5 lug since i knew what wheels cleared it (s14 wheels)

i just put masking tape on the s13 brkae rotor and 300zx rotor after i aligned the holes that did fit and used a nut and bolt to also add some extra hold
the drill bit i used was 31/64th i believe or 32/64th cant remeber
i am in the process of doing the same thing, i was able to buy hubs, rotors, and brake calipers as a set, basically you want to get to the wheel lockout nut *spindle nut* and then the whole hub should come right off, there is no need to buy a new spindle, but you should think of changing your brake lines since you are down there in that viscinity

WoW...this is OLD ASS bump haha...anyway, if its the 300zx calipers, i think you have to change your brake lines...other than that, theres no need to buy a new spindle...and btw, search a little more next time...
