View Full Version : Can someone confirm my wiring for gauges?(PICS)

Alright so I wanted to hook up my air/fuel ratio gauge and boost gauge to the same power source, so what I did was solder the power line from the boost gauge and the power from the air fuel ratio together, than spliced those 2 onto a in-line fuse connector with 5 amps. I just want to make sure that I can do this because the different thicknesses of the wires scare me lol , or if not, how can I do it? I also soldered the grounds together and spliced another cable to those 2 to make one ground.

The red and the white wires are the wires that need 12V. The orange one is the fuse holder.

yea that should be alright and its better to run all your grounds to one place anyways

If your power source is thicker gauge than the actual wires to the device it's ok, just so long as the fuse is matched to the smallest gauge wire. As long as you aren't drawing more power than the wires can handle, they won't heat up/melt/catch on fire/burn your shit to the ground.

Alright, well I hooked it up all up, covered up my soldrings points and presto! both gauges turned on fine with no problem. Thanks

First, you need to find out how much current each gauge will draw. I'm not sure 5A is enough for both. If they both normally draw more than 5 together, you'll blow the fuse.

The thin red wire can probably hold 15A max. The white one about 30A, and the fuse holder no more than 40A.

The way you have it wired up it's ok. Just be warned that it may blow the fuse if the nominal load of both gauges is more than 5A.

Also, it's important where you draw current from. Nissan doesn't provide provisions from the factory for the S13 to add aftermarket electronics. The best way is to tap the igniton wire and use a relay to pull in current for these gauges straight from the battery.

Piggy-back this 5A circuit onto any existing circuit, e.g. lights, radio, etc., and you'll risk blowing the fuse with the extra load. People usually then stick in a larger fuse = more current = more heat = BBQ.
