I'm just wondering what the rules are for importing cars in the US are. In Canada, the car has to be 15 years old from date of manufacture, but in the states I've seen R33's and some S14's. This is purely out of curiosity, and to clear up some arguements between friends. :)
P.S- if this is in the wrong spot, lemme know.

a car from the united states to canada is not a big deal. it really isnt. bringing a car from japan to canada is easy as well. bringing a car from japan to the united states is an ordeal. SEARCH.

im pretty sure theres no rule about how old it is, i think its a matter of the car being DOT approved or USDM equivelent, i dont understand why they dont shipp it directly to the U.S, witch i would like to know, but this is a good topic i think it could definently clear up some Q's

I'm interested in both.
I've heard the importing from US to Canada is quite simple.
I'm really interested in how it works from Japan to US.

its not about being a humanitarian. its about cutting down on these ridiculous gotdam threads. in the years ive been around here i have seen this topic covered at least 30 times, and every time its brought up the same links were given and people were alot more harsh than ive been. your answer is simple and i even outlined it in my first post:
1.taking a car from the U.S.A. to Canada is not a big deal
2.taking a car from any other country (canada, puerto rico, japan, et c.) and bringing it to the U.S.A. will be a hassle and you will have a grey market car on your hands at best. unless you can afford 11 cars (10 to crash test) on top of the taxes, freight fees, et c. DONT BOTHER WITH IT.
*BONUS*3.if you have the money to import the jaydeemmmmm tyteness you have the money to convert your U.S. spec car
and on a side note, if you must, i mean simply HAVE to bring a car over, move to a state like arkansas where there are no inspection stations and 3 people have seen a car not made in america and you MIGHT be ok
