I bought this 1989 240, SOHC auto last week. The kid I bought it from attempted to do a 1995 DOHC swap in the car. When you turn the key over the starter engages and continues to crank even if you remove the key! Car will not start, but will continue to crank for hours. Creeps me out.

I will probably put an SR20DET into and switch it to Manual, but I would like to figure out whats going up.

The starter solenoid could be faulty (they have a pull-out and a hold-in winding that could be messed up) and the ignition switch is probably a little trippy (wiring).

You could try bypassing the ignition to test the starter, this will help narrow down where the problem is.

Or if you're lucky, you have just taken possession of an Autobot.

This isn't a for sale section. Post it in the appropriate area.

Here's the correct section to post for sales in.
