Sunday Dec 2nd Nissan Festival at California Speedway
I wasn't able to make this event as i had allready begun stripping my car down after Laguna Seca to make the new wide body kit. But our sponsored 350Z went
with devastating results in the time attack. Hold on... just a minute...
1st place Modified driven by Mike Bonanni
1st Place Unlimited driven by Scott Bush
I had just put the prototype dry carbon hood on the nite before, and the car had been dynoed around the corner at JWT to nearly 800 HP. Holy $hit was all i said. The car was hitting 170 in the straighaway like a bullet train.
Here is the only pic i have for the moment. More to follow as we find them :2f2f:

Actually, Mike Kojima said it was more like 180 when he was behind the Z.

Looks mean with the new dry carbon and vents.

800hp? Holy crap, no wonder you got 170+ on the straights.

Congratulations.

Good god...

I was there and ran my 240SX but was only able to get up to about 135MPH on the oval... The car just wouldn't go any faster...

I guess 800HP is what it takes... Congrats...

800hp is definitely raising the bar a couple of levels:bigok:. Maybe I can draw some inspiration from you guys to put our car back together as it just collects dust now. Congrats on throwin' it down!!!.

Thank you guys, if you want some history on the wins and "What's Inside" go to
http://doubledown350z.com/sponsors.htm
It will be updated soon.
As far as videos, i don't have any new ones. This one i made from last Feb at Cal Spdwy in the soaking rain. Driver Scott Bush, who took the 1st in Unlimited last weekend. So you can imagine how nuts he is on a dry track. :loco:

Thanks for the responses everybody and thanks for posting this Mike! Actually, the car was tuned at 20psi (680whp) for this event but has been run before at 749whp. The event was a lot of fun, and a great way to end a great debut year for this car! All I have to say is, at 170+mph thank god we have somebody like Kognition that knows a thing or two about aerodynamics!

LOL i couldn't stop laughing when the scion spun out. I was amazed how fast that little car was.

Relentless350Z
12-06-2007, 08:16 AM
Thanks again guys! We ran the car in all three Redline Time Attack classes in 2007, including Street class, so we had to keep it within the Street Class rules. We will no longer be running the Street Class in 2008 so we will be pushing the level of the build into the Modified class rules and hopefully making the car even faster :).

Sick, great to see a Z33 doing so well. I know there's a lot of Evo guys who really have a god complex and see the Z33 as inferior, and I'm sure this applies to NSX folks as well sometimes.

Any plans for greater displacement in the future? This is still a 3.5L, right?

Relentless350Z
12-06-2007, 08:38 AM
Well lets be honest, Evos and NSXs are superior to the Z33 on the track as they should be with the weight advantages and mid engine design of the NSX and of course the AWD of the Evo. Hopefully we can just prove to a few people that the Z isn't as inferior as they think :).

No plans to bump up the displacement. I don't think we will be crying for more power any time soon :). Yes it is still a 3.5L.

off topic....but Rados tC is no joke. OMG that thing pulls. I lold @ your convo after he spun.

Relentless350Z
12-06-2007, 02:31 PM
Yeah Rado's tC is fast for sure. His electronics setup is incredible. We actually run his World Motorsports TBC-1 Boost Controller on the Z and that thing has so many incredible features on it that if set up properly, it can almost act as a traction control. Right now, all its doing for us is holding boost but hopefully now that the season is over until the end of March we can find some time to program that thing to its full potential.

At least the Z33 has a nice lightweight double A arm suspension. Evo struts=bleh. Not to say that the cars don't work well, I'd just rather start with a better fundamental design. The powerband you have must be great too. There's a lot more flexibility with a 3.5L than the peaky 2.0 or even 2.3/2.4L Evo engines.

The NSX is a car I respect more than the Evo just because of its excellent fundamental design characteristics. But obviously, the Evos are quick and near the top of the game.

I'm surprised there haven't been any high profile time attack RX-7s here in the US. Seems more common in Japan.

Relentless350Z
12-06-2007, 04:21 PM
Twins Turbo has an RX-7 that could dominate Time Attack but they run it in NASA races. They ran it at the Super Lap Battle finals last month and it turned insane lap times, but then caught fire.

I knew the Twins when the first came to LA

they are ok people

^sounds like a typical rotary though

Yeah Rado's tC is fast for sure. His electronics setup is incredible. We actually run his World Motorsports TBC-1

haha thats funny I just saw it at my welders shop the other day.

Adding more cage, and more cage and more cage haha

They use a wind tunnel?

It seems to me every car would be different?

is that a numbersjet?

What are you using to measure road speed? Wheel speed sensor.

I was curious about the EMS on the car too.

Very cool non-the less

What was wrong with the old one?

They use a wind tunnel?

Nope. I wish we had access to a wind tunnel. I don't think he is trying to re-invent or create anything new though, just applying the basic principals of aerodynamics to basic aerodynamics parts. Track testing and driver feedback is as fancy as it gets on my budget.

is that a numbersjet?

After some light Google research I am assuming that a numbersjet is a dyno? No, it was a Dynopak.

Yep.

LOL, people always get a kick out of this. Split Second Box.
