1: make a template out of cardboard

3:when you catch your breath, take the template to a SHEETMETAL SHOP

S13's are equipped with 4 tow hooks, stock.
They were used to attach the chassis to the assembly line during manufacturing. They are strong enough to pull a s13 up a 15 foot hill out of a ditch. (Long story, no illegal activities on my part).
What more do you need?

it would cost like $20 to have one made out of thick stainless steel. no shipping cost, no wait, your logic is borked.

12-02-2007, 07:07 PM
The two at the back can be unbolted. You can make a tmeplate to bolt those back up to the stock holes. the two up front (look under your bumper, you'll see them) are part of the chassis. But why do you want tow hooks? Just to look cool? I would spend my money on more useful things, but thats just my personal opinion, because like ThatGuy said, the stock tow hooks are fine, and I too know how strong they are.

He doesn't know the difference between need and want
Need: Has a purpose. Something essential to survival. You need a tow hook to dig yourself out of a ditch.
Want: Something you don't need but still desire. You want a tow hook so you can follow a trend and look cool.
What were telling you is that you don't need to get an aftermarket tow hook since it's not necessary. OEM works perfectly fine. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I understand however, that you want the look. The answer to your question was already suggested. Make it yourself.
ThatGuy
12-02-2007, 07:22 PM
Just because you saw it in a Picture, doesn't mean you can just run out and buy one.
Building one would probably be easier, and more rewarding in the long run.

Dude, let me ask you this since you're clearly confused.
I'm assuming you're talking about the big red round tow hook that kids like you like to bolt just anywhere and think it looks cool, right? (I can only assume, since even after having nearly a dozen people ask, you still have yet to answer anyone)
In that case, you're only wanting it for the 'look', since most of those bolted to cars, in magazines mind you where you must have got this brilliant idea, are nowhere that you'd want to pull on without tearing sheetmetal and removing body panels. in that case, you could make one of wood or even cardboard, then paint it red, since again you're only going for the cool factor.
Otherwise the OE hooks are more than sufficient for anything you'd need them for.

I've been thinking about getting one of the ones that attach to the strut tower.
Are there any that are made to fit a 240 so they stick out the side of the hood? If not then nevermind because I'm not cutting a hole in anything.
Using the stock hooks is a pain on a lowered car, especially with aero and ic piping in the way. I had to be towed home by a friend once when my clutch went out, we used the front hook and I hope I don't have to do that again anytime soon, especially now that my ic piping runs right by the hooks.
SexPanda
12-02-2007, 07:38 PM
i doubt anyone sells them, unless you want some nice holes in your hood. Get some made for 1/5 the cost of buying some, if they do infact make them, and get them powdercoated. Just slap on a japanese sounding name sticker, and say that you imported them from japan...
That actually doesnt sound like a bad idea...

If you're worried about your front aero, take it off before towing. IC piping? Use cloth straps around the hooks to cut down on damage to your pipes.

You can make one real simple and make it look real nice if you really want one. Cut a hole in your bumper, weld or bolt on the custom made tow hook, and cover the hole with one of those plastic lid things you find on computer desks.

Emergency! He takes a corner too fast and goes into a ditch. His friend in an F-350 helps pull his S13 out. The first tow hook's going to break immediately from all the rust and the second one's going to be bent to shit and not usable. He's about to give the third one a shot, until he realizes that he cut it off for some unknown reason. The fourth one wasn't even there. But wait, holy macaroni, the aftermarket fifth one! He uses it and pulls his car out of the ditch and he escapes from the running magma.
The connecting rod as a tow hook is the best!
ThatGuy
12-02-2007, 08:00 PM
If his car has that much rust and problems with the frame, he needs to spend his money elsewhere then on a universal towhook to look cool.
