Ok i tried searching but found nothing about this.
I read awhile back that a KA 5spd tranny can be used on the CA18det. Can anyone confirm this? Also the guy said something about the 5th gear was different. Does anyone have any info on this? Reason i ask is because im moving back to USA from europe and im bringing my fully built motor but i cant ship the tranny unless i want to pay alot of cash. Its not worth it since i can buy one in the US cheaper than the shiping price, but now id like to looking this KA tranny rumor.
Thanks vilvia

there is no adapting.

You need a CA bellhousing.

it bolts onto a KA transmission.

5th gear is higher in a CA tranny, it's not an issue, it's only a slight thing, you probably won't notice.

but yea, KA/SR/CA trans are the same, just need the proper bellhousing for your transmission.

ok thx for the speedy response guys.
Could you clarify on the 5th gear is higher on the CA tranny... im not exactly sure what you mean. Like the gears are shorter/longer? Also since now we are saying KA/SR/CA trannys can be used which do you think would be stronger?
Only reason i ask is because back in my Sr days i went thru trannys like tires.

They are all the same trans, none of them are stronger/ weaker.

on a CA trans, the engine will be revving alittle higher in 5th gear at 55 mph than a KA/ SR trans.

Yeah, the gear ratio difference is almost moot.

I did a CA20 Bellhousing from a MKII S12, I don't know if the MKI CA20 will work, I know the shifter design is different.

But its not an issue, just do it.

thanks guys! Well since i will have a KA tranny sitting around after being pulled for my project i just may try this. I remember at 100kmh i was a little over 3k rpms so it will be interesting to see the difference on the KA tranny, and just a new experence for me.
again thx for the help!
