View Full Version : SR evaporative (evap) charcoal canister

This is more a mental exercise than anything else. I know we all just plug the charcoal canister ports.
But let's say you have a blacktop S13 SR, and you want to keep the evap charcoal canister for inspection purposes.
One port gets fume from the tank. One vacuum port goes to the small nipple under the TB. One vent port goes into the frame rail.
Where does the other purge port go if the evap solenoid is not there? Can it be plugged straight into where the evap solenoid would be with no ill effect? I don't imagine so because it's only meant to be a burst.
To be honest, I don't even know where the evap solenoid goes because I've always seen the evap stuff removed.
Any helpful comments will be appreciated.

Trying to pass inspection with an illegal engine and your worried about a stupid canister??? Just take it off and keep the engine bay clean...dont know how strict VA is but from the few people I know whos from around there, good luck.

This is not my car.
As said above, I have always removed the canister. Search my posts with the word "charcoal" and you will see. Please don't read your assertions into other people's post.
Any constructive comments will be appreciated.

You can probably look in the FSM for the vacuum line routings, maybe put something in one of the lines so as not to cause a vacuum leak.
If its just for visual anyway.

I haven't seen an S13 SR FSM with vacuum line routing. They're only available in Japanese and the most I've seen is some excerpts about ECU wiring.
The best we have is the S14 SF FSM, but the intake side is slightly different.
If I were to fake it I would just epoxy a vacuum hose into the side of the intake manifold. They would not know.

Well since you are only replacing the motor, and it only has the throttle body connection to the evap system, You could just hook the vacuum line to the SR throttle body instead of the KA one, and the rest of the system would be business as usual.
I guess maybe what I'm not taking into consideration here is if you have a OBDII S14.

Thanks for trying to help, but that doesn't really answer my question. I already know where the vacuum port goes. I need to know where the purge port can go if the evap solenoid is not there.
