Hello all, I am new here. I am planning on purchasing a 1998 240sx. I need your guy's help on my purchase of the 240sx. What would you guys suggest for me. I had a 2000 Toyota Celica GT-S 6sp, but totalled it a month ago . What model would you suggest, and what would a good price be for one? Also how much would an s15 front end conversion be? Thanks in advance.

my advice.......buy my 98 for 16 grand, it's a great deal

Why would you do an S15 front end conversion to a '97-'98? I really don't understand some people... you know people spend hundreds if not thousands to make their '95-'96 look like a '97-'98... I can't say I agree (I *like* the zenki, it flows better), but with the later cars being so rare to begin with....
Just get a '95-'96...
If your planning on doing an S-15 conversion you might as well buy a 95-96 240 and do your S15 conversion and have money left over for performance and suspension upgrades

how old are u? u seem young, cuz u TyPe LikE dIs. aNd If YoUr YoUnG dId u BuY Da GTS YouRselF? mom and dad probably bought it, and its already been busted up..i dunno wat u were doin, but im guessing it has to do with speed, spinning out, and crashing into something or somebody crashing into u.
if your gonna buy a 97-98 plz dont do the s15 conversion. that is a total waste of money and if u Cant appreciate the beauty of the S14a headlights, dont buy it at ALL!

Personally I like my 95 front. It's unique and you don't see too many of them. I guess that's just me. AKA's got a point though if you're looking to buy an S14 model and make an S15. You can spend the extra 8-10 grand on a 98, or just spend about 5-6 grand on a 95.

Well.... Thanks for the welcome guys! I am a total newb to the 240sx. I don't know what the hell I am doing so that is why I registered for this forum. Is everyone always an ass on these boards? Oh well. By the way I am 21 years old, and had my Celica for 3 years. Unfortunately I wrecked it on a one lane hwy. I am looking into the 98' 240sx but I take it that I might as well get a 95? No, I think i'll just get another Celica.
Thanks for the welcome and lates too all. You guys really are bad!!!

PS: I might come back to these boards, but I guess everyone are just asses on it. I'll be checking back, but if you guys are the same, so be it. Later beeotches!!! LOL!!

If you want a 240SX get one trust me it is a great car.But if you are planning to do a s15 front go for a 95-96 instead cus the 97-98 have a very sweet but unique look to them already. The straberry face look is real nice but the 97-98's are a very rare car as it is.So you can choose yourself.

Welcome to the forum. It's your car and I definately know the route you're going. My car has so many different parts from other year 3000GT's and Stealths that it's not even funny. Just do what you like the best. Dont' worry about half the people on this forum. They have their panties in a bundle and start shitting bricks about "newbs" and "rice". yes, everyone was a newbie at one point. some newbies, however, were smart enough to attempt to do at least a miniscule amount of research into the car they were buying before hopping on a specific car forum asking others to do their work for them.

My suggest is get the 98....and sell the front end to me for $1200 .....j/k
Seriously, by a 95-96, there are cheaper and easier to find. Oh yea as for model wise, try to find a SE. I know there are alot of 95-96 SE's out there compare to the 97-98. BTW, the tails are much better.
The S-15 front end conversion will cost you roughly $3100+. Its not cheap, but its real nice. Also if you do get the front end, be careful what bumpet you get....because not everything looks nice on a car with no sides and rear.
hahahaha, it makes me so afraid to join other boards for just this reason.
i'm with T-nord on this one...
just name-dropping the S-15 is a dead give away at what kind of dude he was.
i saw in some recent incarnation of a tuner mag that any s14 or s13 can become an S-15 for a little more than $40,000 usd.... and it's still not really an s-15
oh and linkin park rocks... maybe

Hello again guys! Well you guys can say that I am going for all show, and a little bit of go to compliment the car. There aren't too many 97-98 240sx's around here or anywhere. But the reason why I am not going all out performance is because I've had the go in my Celica. My mods included Injen CAI, AMSS header, TRD exhaust, ACT street clutch, TODA flywheel (9.6lbs), Quife LSD, and Unorthodox pulley set. I might have left out some other things. I ran a 14.9 in the quarter mile with these mods @ 500 sea level in the dang hot 100 degree weather. I had major traction problems because my tires were shitty (falken ziex). but what I'm trying to do now is that I want to do exterior mods now. Thanks for the help to the guys that aren't asses. I tell you, this board has the most @ssh0les than any other board I have been to. I'm still looking into getting a 240sx! I've found a 98' 240sx LE for $12000 @ 47000 miles. is that for a 97?
So far everyone I have met that bought a new 240SX has bought a 96 SE ranging from $5000-$6000. I bought my 95 SE for $3700, but the guy was selling it for $4400.....i just knew how to talk.
The '98 is a good deal, but in my opinion I don't see why you would buy a '98 and change the front end. The '97-'98 is a rare car (IMO) and I like the front end....all you need is the lip and you have a nice stock car. The pic in my sig can give you can idea how nice a '98 can be once you add rims and the factory lip. I'm one of the people saving up to change my front end to that style....so if you do buy the '98 I'm willing to make an offer for most of your parts.
I don't see why you would only go for looks only. Trust me your mind will change once you get that car. I was only going for looks until I found out what potential this car has.

The car can last you a long time. Some people have car with 236,xxx miles and still running good. My car has 144,000 miles and runs good.....real good. All you have to do is take care of your car, you know be easy on the heavy foot and keep it well maintained. I hear the only problems with the engines are overheating and something with fuel (but I forgot what it was). Anyways the 240SX is a solid car.
As for suspension, IMO I think the 240SX has a real good suspension setup. I like it when I take the twisty road doing about 60 and how my car handles in emergencies.....yes near fatal accidents.
Basically your getting into a very nice, rare, reliable, dependable, solid, and comfortable car.

Ok to hybridtheory and all the other members that didn't like me and others bitching at the guy. I think i'll be saying what most felt.
Hybrid - the reason why we got so many "asses" on this board compared to others, is because here nobody will ever tell you that yer alluminum pos wing with neon washers looks nice. I find it really a good side of board that most people are more concerned with performance (track drag whatever) than the show. After all it's a car, not a dress. You are supposed to make it fast, not shiny. Don't worry, i also came here being a newb (and a ricer to that, although i never had a car b4) and got my flames when diserved for asking stupid questions. I survived, so will you.... if you learn of course. Now, i'm not saying that s15 convo is bad. Yeah it's ricey. But honestly i have nothing against people who want to make their cars look nice. But you don't buy a 12000 car (when u can buy a 5000 car) and waste some more money on making it look a totally different way. You must know (that's the least you must know) that s14as are the rearest of 240sx breed, and taking and wasting one of them is like the worst thing you can do.
final notes: I really don't like conversions. I think it's the worst way to spend money. Unless ofcourse you got in an accident and your front is completely gone. Although if that happend to me, i'd still put my front back on (i like it more than s15). And realizing what you can actually do with the car performance wise makes conversions really dumb. My opinion. And i actually think people will agree with me.
and to make my post worth something:
http://www.f-max.com/
http://heavythrottle.com/
either way with some minor work the 240 will run about a second faster than what your gt-s did in a quarter mile.

Yeah, and if you find a 240SX that you are interested in, make your move quickly. When I was looking to buy one, I don't know how many times I called the seller to find that the car had already been sold..and this was like two-three days after he had put it online.
About the model..if you have the cash...go for a 97-98, but if you don't, go for the 95-96. The only real benfit of getting an S14a is the most likely lower mileage...but there are a handful of S14's out there with <60K. But if you get the S15 conversion..the car will look the same regardless if it's a 95-96, or 97-98.

Yes, you guys are right. I loved my Celica and I modded the engine to hell. I nearly spent 5g's on the engine. Oh my god it felt good. And I guess when I find and purchase the 240sx I know that I will change my mind. Trust me, there are a lot of ricers around here and they really make me sick to the stomach.
Kreator: You're cool. I know that some pos wing and neon lights looks hella fugly. And I know that this board is concerned about performance. I know that this car has potential, that is why I chose this car to be my next. But aside from the all show. Performance for me is the last thing on my mind right now. Unless its carb legal, I'll put it on my car. There are alot of cops out popping hoods and that kinda scared me so that is why I am leaning more towars the "all show" now. As far as the s15 conversion goes, I chose to listen to you guys and keep the s14 .
