While i can't say too much about my track results last weekend, ahem :coolugh:
But had alot of fun! 50 years to the day the tracks first
event was held, the Redline Time Attack finals started at Laguna Seca in Salinas last weekend.
The 350Z had a few gremlins this weekend like a new set of wheels that had one mismatched offset in the rear. Nearly stripping a half inch gash of rubber from the inside wall of a spanking new Toyo tire. All in all, the Z placed 1st in Street RWD, and a respectable 2nd place in Modified. The Unlimited class was so tough,
that we did not place. Desparate measures by all drivers and teams to bring the decibels down below 92DB was a constant challenge. But what an amazing track. I don't have many pics, because i was on the track all weekend. But more should be surfacing soon. :)

Reason is probably because Laguna Seca has pretty strict noise requirements.

Scott got a 1:38:409 in Modified RWD, and Mike B. got a 1:42:025 in Street RWD. The time difference being in the different sets of tires they ran for each class. They are both on par with eachother as far as speed and skill go.

I am pulling the roof off because it was a wet layup prototype. And putting a finished one on. This was the real test for this roof.

The AMS wing support structure is ridiculous. It's turning into a small suspension bridge.

Strange looking, but it works. :)
If you look at the width of the wing relative to the body, it's a super wide wing.
And it was very likely made using FEA software, so i know they put alot of thought into their wing setup. I would not be surprised if that wing generates 600lb's of downforce. And it's cables and struts could easily handle the stress.

How heavy is that thar hood?

The Kouki dry carbon hood on our car is about 9lb's. It's a prototype, and i am experimenting with some other structural designs for the hoods. I can get them down to 7lb's if i work at it. :2f2f:

That's some good times. I wish I knew you were down here. My friend works there and let me in to Laguna all the time.
Good info!

Is that for style or sound reduction? (You mentioned having to decrease the decibals of the 14).

noise reduction.
I really like the z and the 240

why does a race track have sound/decibel limits?? that's sounds kinda stupid to me.
p.s. all the cars are looking nice. i want to drive/ride in them

Oh, I believe it works. It just looks ridiculous.

where can i get on of those sweet shirts? pandagarage only has hats. and i want a zenki s14 hood and radio trim insert too.

the people that live around the track bitch. i'm guessing the tip on the s14 is just to point the sound away from the meter that sits on the right side of the track.

Zoning codes I would assume. Qualcomm down in SD has the same since it sits in a Basin where several people live around. In order to keep autocrossing alive there, sound levels are strictly monitored.

Because Laguna Seca Raceway is nestled in the hills in the heart of wine country and there are hundreds of very expensive homes in hearing range. I think it is bullshit that the fucking politicians forced Laguna Seca to enforce stricter sound regs (I think laguna is 93db max and most other tracks are 103-110db) because that track was there YEARS before any of those homes were even being considered to be built. As far as I am concerned they decided to move close to a race track, they have to deal with the noise. Seriously though ALL tracks that I have ever been to with SCCA have sound limits.

If I loan out my s13 coupe to you guys to work on some test molds and what not for panels can I get a discount? :D
