what i want to do is this. i want to remove the back part of my back seat in my S13 hatch, so i can easily reupholster the back of it. i'm going to cover it with some grippy black rubber so when it's folded down i can throw stuff on it, and the stuff won't sloide around. not to mention my slidy sub box ripped the upholstery right off the back of it anyway...

It's pretty straightfoward.
Take off the bottom cushion first, then you should see the bolts that attaches the back of the seat.
Take pics of the after results if you can, I've been contemplating doing the same thing as well (replacing the carpet in the trunk/back of seat with something grippy that cleans up easy.

well, the original plan was just to staple some rubber on top of the original carpet... but now everything's messed up, so that ain't happenin. so what i'm gonna do is this. i'm going to take all the carpet off the back of the seat, and remove all the carpet from the trunk. then, i'm going to cut a piece of cardboard off a refrigerator box or something and cut it to the same shape as the seat back, then attach the rubber to it... followed by epoxying the carboard/rubber mess to the seat back. then, i'm going to take the old carpet and cut off the seatback part, stitch up the edge, and then affix velcro to the bottom to keep it in place. i'm also going to mount some L brackets in there (and cut coresponding holes in the carpet) to hold my sub box in place. voila: a more useful, non-ass-looking trunk.
