I'm switching back to KA24DE and want to put a totally fresh squeaky clean zero mile longblock in, I have the motorset (1997/8 twincam) and I've done my homework on a few shops around the Los Angeles area but figured I'd ask around for names of some smaller shops that maybe i hadn't seen or good or bad experiences thereof.
And for all those who inevitably will say "do it yourself", I will; as soon as you let me barrow you hot tank, pressure bench, mill, lathe, and engine dyno and pay me for my time off work.
So lets hear it.

rofl.
yeah.. go get the machine work done @ the shop, but no reason you cant reassemble it yourself at home.
then again.. if you were going to do that, why would you want to end up with a ka24de?
go find a busted SR block, i've seen someone in socal selling one for under a grand..
make it fresh squeaky clean and install it.
otherwise, if you're set on the ka24de..
i could imagine it would run you anywhere in the $1000-$1500 range for a stock rebuild, if its done at a shop.
Goodluck :)

You don't need a mill or lathe for a stock rebuild, nor an engine dyno. If you're using OE parts, you're making OE power, and there's no tuning available with OE engine management. Just replace bearings and rings in the block, and valve seals in the head.
Take the engine apart, take everything to have it hot tanked, then reassemble yourself. Should cost about $200 in parts and $100 or so in labor.

Where are you finding a longblock OE rebuild kit for 200? True i'm only trying to make OE power thats why im willing to drop it off and pick it up ready to be dropped in. though Im not entirely sure the head isnt warped.

Gasket set can be had on Ebay for $40. Rings and bearings run about $160-180 from the dealer.
Done and done.
