Hey guys, I've been holding onto a Z31 T3 I found in the junkyard in decent condition.

I'll be using a top mount mani so the exhaust elbow/wastegate flapper will need to be swapped out for this 280ZX wastegate flapper:

Here's what Im worrying about; When I removed the 280ZX wastegate flapper from the 280ZX in the junkyard, I kept snapping bolts off into the turbine housing! I even used WD40 and let it sit for about 10 min. I DON'T want this to happen to my Z31 T3!!!!!!!!! extracting studs sucks.

Does anyone have any experience and/or tips for removing 20-year-old heatcycled bolts without shearing them off? Any help is appreciated!!

ok 1. DONT USE WD40. i cant stress that enough. use PB blaster, that shit will allow almost anything to break loose.

using wd40 is like just pissing on it.

2. soak it in pb blaster and let it sit over night while soaking.

when you go to reassemble it, go get some 3M Brake lube (never sieze is a fucking joke, it always dries and makes it harder to unbolt shit) and lubricate every bolt, so that way when you hafta do it again you wont break everything.

other than that, ive never had to disassemble a turbo (yet.) so i can't really help
out more than the above.

i have the same turbo, once i got the wastegate crap off i just left it off and made a flange with a hole for the exhaust and then blocked off the wastegate hole. external wastegate ftw.

use Brake Fluid it's better than PB blaster we tested that @ a muffler shop for 2 weeks. and Brake FLuid took the win.

heat. rust bomb/pb blaster. when taking bolts off try to put turbo in a vise or something to prevent it from moving and then trying to undo bolts with angles and shit. take your time. But, use heat as a last option. If you get a bolt to break loose a bit, spray more of your solution you use on the bolt so it can get to what just moved.
