my custom tails' what do you think? part 2

OK, a while ago i posted some pics of me converting my OE tails to round style ones. i had a lot of good feedback which was great, but now i need your opinion on my latest idea... i was stomped on what to do with my OE 180sx center garnish, so i came up with this. what do you think?

I dont really like it but if you do thats the main thing. What i would do in your situation would be to take your time (which it will) and mask it so only the 180sx shows. You can do it, you just gotta be patient. There isnt too many round edges. Then use the oem tail lights and smoke them.

They look nice and you've done a good job... but I wouldn't be caught dead with them, mostly because I'd have the cash for the real thing. And wouldn't rock anything less... +1 for you though.

What you need to do is relocate the lights to have a more centered illumination. Can you reposition the lights on each end of the lettering and point them at each other? That would eliminate the spotty light look. Other than that it looks okay.

Me personally, I hate the tails just cause you can see the screws and makes them look like you jacked them off a trailer. At least paint match the screw holes red to hide them better.

Oh and hurry and finish the other side!!! Looks even worse only half done.

This turned out really excellent. I was wondering how/where you sourced the round refletors that you have on the inside of the housing. Also, what sort of sealent did you use to put the housing back together and how has the mod faired in terms of water getting inside?

I did this to my 626 a couple years back and I have to tell you, its worth every penny of the black spray paint :)

thanks for your opinions, i actually like them better at night also. and to be honest, i could have bought a new set of kouki's for $400-$600 if i wanted, but then my car would have just been another hatch with kouki's.. i'm happy with them, and i see most of you are also.

i have a set of gtr 32 tails in the garauge that i might turn into hatch tails also.. maybe.

the following is a copy of the o.g. post i made when first started.

well for some time now I've been wanting to make my own tail lights. after seeing the very nice but high priced kouki tails, i figured id alter my extra set of stock tail's. I've only done the right one so far which took 3 days, and would like to know what you guy's think, and if it was worth all the effort. well post up and give me some feed back. i still might do some more work to them and add a turn signal in the middle , so they look like r32 lights. but ill decide on that later.

i like the center peice. When i first bought my s13 5 years ago, i thought the 240sx part would light up. And i thought this for about the first month i've had the car... boy was i disappointed when i found it it didn't do shit!

the ones between the taillights are turn signals. i just have to find a way to dye them amber.
