I am responding to this thread and I am saying up front that I do not know the answer.
Are they really necessary, or is this an aesthetics thing for you? I ask because my car is auto-5speed and my reverse lights have never worked, nor have they on 5 others I have seen and/or otherwise driven, and none of us have been driven into by a driver who cannot see a car that is moving backwards.

its 2 wires.
you have to figure out which 2 under the fuse/relay box, and hook them into the reverse light switch.
doesnt matter which way you hook them to the switch, its just a switch that closes when you put the car in reverse.

There's a thing you can find the answer on so people don't have to keep repeating the same shit over and over again. It's called the internet.

there is two wires coming off a sensor in the middle of the tranny, in front of the speed sensor, they go into one of the plugs on the lower wire harness,

I know there are a few threads on auto to manual conversion and they show how to do the wiring for the reverse lights

Your welcome.
How can so many of you not hook it up? They need to work to pass an inspection here in MA, I would only assume it would be the same in CA or elsewhere.

Nah we pretty much have the shittiest inspection process of all the 50 states... I hooked mine into the cut AT harness via the ground and reverse wire... couldn't get the neutral switch to work that way tho
