I know 75/90 goes in it, but can i use 80/90 in it for some extra protection?

i heard something about using a heavier oil, that it helps in locking up the rear longer for drifting but im not to sure.

VLSD = Doesn't matter what oil you use. Seriously.
Gear oil will NOT affect how well the VLSD locks up. EVER.
75 and 80 weight is SUCH a small difference, don't even bother.
Sure heavier oil helps "protect" better, but 75-90 is fine.
If you're paranoid you can always run 80w140, but in all honesty its overkill. There's so little friction inside a vlsd pumpkin that it wouldn't even matter what you ran.

Blah, I absolutely hate that gear oil with a passion. All gross and red. Looks like a bag of liquid herpes

WRONG!!!!
Gear oil matters on lock up...
This is what nissan recommends..
Penzoil 80/90 i believe then there lsd additive.. You can find it at some stores its a blue and white tube... I use to drift 4-5 times a weak and touge 2 times on top of that and i dont drift for 10 minutes i was drifting for hours. Never had any problems for the whole year but i felt it going finaly... If you drift like that you change it once a month like i was or just every 2-3 months...
hope this helps worked for me...
