first off, this is NOT going in my 240. this is for my new car, an Acura 3.0CL. if this belongs in a different section, please move it, thanks!

it's been a couple years since i've put one together for myself. i'm not doing any subwoofers, but i want to do 100+ watts per channel for the midrange, and replace the rear 6x9's with 6.5" components.

for the head unit, i'm going with Pioneer's DEH-6900UB. i've always been a pioneer fan, they're almost impossible to kill.

for 6.5's, i'm not really sure. the only speakers i've found under $200 a pair with over 100w RMS have been Polks and Alpines. i'm leaning towards Alpine as i've had several sets of Alpine speakers and subwoofers in the past.

Alpine SPR-17S ([email protected], $140)

Polk Momo MMC6500 ([email protected], $160)

for the amp, i'm looking at a pair of Hifonics TXI6006's. [email protected] RMS

so, if you have any suggestions or opinions, post up, i'm definitely not for sure on any of these.

not alot of people run them... but imo, infinity kappa perfect series is one of the best out there, i use to be big into show vehicles and getting huge stereo's. and having a mobile "theater" pretty much.. and from everything i've used(alpine, eclipse, ext) infinity is my favorite... and along with that they are priced great

I agree with infinity over alpine... I've had both and the alpines sound flat in comparison, awesome sound, just flat. Since your not running a sub I think the infinitys will be a better bang for your buck. This car has 6 speakers I'm assuming? Get components or find some 3 way speakers if you want a real pop... someone like focal iirc makes them

it comes stock with components up front and 6x9 coax in the back. it's actually a very nice sounding stock system, you can turn it up to earbleed level without any distortion. but there's definitely not enough power.

Yup, I agree with everyone above. The Kappa Perfect series by Infinity is amazing. If you're in a TL, then you probably have the money to go even better. JL Audio's components are THE BEST speakers I've heard with my own pair of ears. Crystal clear SQ.

Is there a reason you don't want to put in a sub? 1 Infinity Kappa Perfect or a JL Audio W3 wouldn't be too much IMO. Just need the space?

my experience with stereo systems is minimal but i have owned both alpine speakers infinity speakers. infinity speakers produce better sound in my opinion.

how about pics of the new ride? ;)

Wait a CL, not a TL. Still, I wish I could afford a daily other than my S14.

1.) it's a '97 CL and i got a KILLER deal on it, i'm not THAT well off :D
2.) the kappas i'm sure are great speakers, but their RMS is like 90 watts.
3.) i'm going to start out with powered mids, if it's STILL not enough bass, i'll throw a Diamond in there. i'm going for clarity first.

Yeah, I hear you. I really want to buy a beater for the winter (cause it snows a good bit here in Michigan), but the beater money is money that could go into my car, you know?

Mang, you got it! I'm glad you're going to balance SQL and SPL. A lot of people I know just buy shitty subs from Best Buy, keep their stock door speakers, and blast their music with all the distortion and call that music...

heh, enter every single person i know who has ever messed with their stereo. it's always either
stock mid/high + 2000 watts of bass
or
aftermarket mid/high, but running off the head unit amp. yeah, guess what, 20 watts running through ANY speaker isn't going to sound good.

that's not to say i haven't had my moments, at one point i had a pair of Diamond CM3's running off a 1400 watt PG. setting off car alarms was fun, but i'd definitely prefer SQ over SPL now :D

I think thats at 4 ohms, don't quote me though... my setup is Alpine headunit to a V12 amp running kappa components up front and 2 ways out back then a kicker 400(485 in reality) mono running an 8" sub in the trunk... more sound than you'll ever need in a tight car like an s14 but idk about a CL
