View Full Version : Could catch can cause fuel leakes

Since I installed the catch can I made for my s14, I've had a small leak on the hose coming from my fuel filter. I tightened the clamp some, and everything was fine. Then this morning I check for leaks again, and the hose going to the filter from the hardline, near the end of it I felt a smudge of fuel on my finger. I don't know if it's because I sorta lifted up on part of the end that extended past the clamp, and maybe felt fuel that had been trapped in there since I took the filter off and put it back on? I did that like a month ago, so I thought for sure it would have evaporated by now. Anyway so I started the car again and let it run for about 3 mins, and revd it two times. Checked hoses while it was running, and my finger was bone dry.

Could my catch can cause a form backpressure in the fuel lines? I highly doubt it, but I didn't notice any of this until the catch can. Which I made out of a campbell air compressor filter like on here... http://crxmpg.com/pcv.html
I mean I have a had the filter hoses crack on me, but they were replaced.

I have the arrow on the compressor filter which indicates flow, going in from valve cover breahter hose and then out into the hose connected to the stock intake tube. So its like valve cover->catch->intake tube.

I'm N/A Ka btw.

Thanks for anyhelp. Also is it possible my catch can can do any harm to the motor? It idles fine but it feels a tad slower in throttle response than before I put it on, but not sure if its in my head. Good thing is, just the first night I had it on I caught a thin film of oil inside and few specs of what look like carbon deposits or something?

no it should not cause any problems, i saw your other thread, and the only way to make, your catch can work properly you'd have to drill out your pcv valve and run one of the lines from there.

Well doesn't the pcv valve run into a seperator or something already. I mean I heard its not the best, but I just left it out the picture since its so hard to get to. I just focused on the breather hose for the moment, cause I know for sure oil was in there. So I put the can in between to catch any oil runing from the valve cover to the intake tube.

So its cool to leave it the way it is for now? I went out a little while ago, check the fuel hoses and no leaks lol.

I was wondering at first if the reason the car felt a tad bit less "snapier" on throttle response is if the compressor filter catch can was to small and being a restriction. But I've seen people use the same on cars with larger or displacement close to 2.4. Like I said car doesn't idle funny or anything, runs just like before. Just sometimes now when I floor it, doesn't put me back in the seat as hard as before or so it feels.

oh yeah thanks for response to I've kinda been on edge lol worrying if I'm about to mess the motor up with this.
