View Full Version : Brake creaking noise...

Ok, I've tried to ignore the problem long enough.. and now its buggin' the shit out of me.
I upgraded to Q45 brakes a long time ago. I *think* the problem has been happening since the beginning..
Anyway, the noise is a creaking I think due to the movement of the caliper when I apply the brakes. So here is the scenario in visual:
I approach a stop light and begin pushing on the brakes. I can feel the flex of the calipers and they make a loud creaking noise. It seems like it got louder when I used the brake line holder that came with my MAX coilovers. It doesn't do it consistently, just upon initially applying the brakes.
I've lubed the floating pins and tightened all the bolts n such..
Any ideas?

I've had this problem in the past, and it turned out to be loose T/C rod bolts.

Yeah fo' sho'....the front suspension takes the weight transfer upon braking so any loose componets will shift.
Check strut towers, steering knuckles, tension rods, sway bar, front chassis brace, for loose bolts.
I had this problem once when I got an alignment done with ingalls camber bolts for the front knuckles. Turns out the right one was only hand tightened and undid itself almost to falling off before I caught it.

Check everything on the front suspension like Dream240 said. My friend has the same swap and I just redid his hub and his caliper bolts were loose. Make sure you torqued them down to specs and there is a small chance your wheel bearing is out and the flex in that might cause this flex your feeling. Just my 2 cents.

Really?
I can see the caliper moving when I take the wheel off for a test.
hmm.. Ok

the Tension rods can creak if inproperly lubed, I would also check the pad guides, sometimes a pad that is sticking in the calipers will creak when you are applying and letting off the brakes.

I believe he is talking about when he is stoped a dead stop as well as when coming to a slow slow stop and when you apply the brakes you can hear them creak I have this same problem with my Z32 aluminum calipers but did not have it with my Q45 when I had them. I think it could be a combination of a possible bent spindle where the calipers bolt up to casuing uneven wear of the brakes, later as the brake pad wears down the piston must come out more with wear and I think the piston cup binds in the calipers as it is forced to come out when the pads wear more.
How I come to this conclusion you might be wondering is when I replace my front brake pads I never have the creaking problem unless until about a few months have passed and the pads have started to weardown.

No, I got new pads just recently.

But basically when you are stoped and you press the brake pedal further and release but not totally release you can hear ceeaking right? Thats exactly what mine does, it almost give sme the impression that my firewall is bending or something

That is usually something in the caliper and pad relationship. :) they must not <3 eachother.

Imma try replacing my spindles next I remember reading once about a problem just like this and it turned out to be a spindle I believe.
