Ok, I'm starting to buy stuff (rods are already on their way). I'm hoping to have everything together and planned by the end of October...and the better I get everything sorted before then, the less down time I'm likely to have with the car. So here's my list of parts. I think I got everything covered to have a safe turbo system, boosting initially at 8psi (upgrades will come soon...shooting for 320+hp to the wheels <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sly.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':sly:'> ) So if you kind Zilvians can lend your scrutiny I'd be very grateful. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
Engine Rebuild:
-Arias pistons 8.5:1 (including pins, rings, and locks)
-Crower rods
-timing assembly rebuild (chains, guides, etc.)
-any required shaving/boring of head/cylinders for flatness/roundness
-all gaskets/seals
Turbo/Accessories:
-T3/04 Turbonetics Turbo (trim and a/r yet to be settled on)
-RevHard Manifold ("warmed over" by yours truely to avoid the notorious cracking)
-Tial 35mm wastegate (7-8psi)
-muffler shop 3" down/mid pipe
-recirculating BOV (maybe SSQV)
-water/oil lines and fittings
-Autometer -30mmHg/30psi boost gauge
Air Intake Track:
-K&N or equivalent cone filter
-3" filter-to-turbo muffler shop piping
-2.5" muffler shop intercooler piping
-Audi 5000 or some other adequately sized junk yard intercooler
-silicon hose/fittings/clamps
-battery relocation kit
Fuel System/Management:
-300ZX Fuel Pump
-370cc Injectors
-JWT ecu
Clutch:
-ACT 4puck (any more streetable alternatives for 300ft.-lbs.+?)
So, is that everything? Any suggestions?

Look under Air Intake Track...Audi 9000, Starion, or whatever I can find big enough and in decent condition junk yard intercooler.
BTW, what wing is that on your car?
It's the fuel part I'm not for sure about. Do I need to upgrade the fuel pressure regulator? Will the stock fuel rail accept 370cc injectors?

How much is that costing you? I would get bigger injectors. Its seems like everyone gets the turbo bug and cranks it up. Don't wanna run lean <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

I would get a turbo temperature gauge and more importantly an air/fuel gauge, worry about the injectors if you notice you are running lean (or on the lean side) during wide open throttle. Plus then when you do play with boost you always know how much gas yo uare getting to the engine.... save the money for the injectors till you are sure you need em. I mean... for when you get bored and wanna crank the boost up... cause of course eventually you will need them <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>

Alias, I have $6K budgeted and an additional $2K backup/emergency. But I'm guessing $5500 or so if all goes well.
And good idea on the extra gauges. Where would you mount a turbo temp gauge sensor/sender, and what's safe operating temps?
And I know the 370cc injectors aren't good for 320+hp, but from what I understand, they fit the stock fuel rail...and anything bigger requires a custom fuel rail (is this true?). Even larger injectors and custom fuel rail are part of "Stage 2" at the moment.

you do need a custom fuel rail also
as for the block, since u have it out, get it o-ringed. you will never have to worry about a blown head gasket. are u boring the cyclinders? or did you get stock bore pistons.
also get the crank balanced and knife edged. go for nismo bearings, and get the journals custom cut
as for fuel regulator. u dont need one because the JWT fuel setup covers it. but runs a little rich. the fuel regulator is great on the dyno which you can adjust the fuel pressure to make the airfuel ratio perfect for the best horsepower.

No...about 250hp initially. 370cc injectors for now if they fit the stock fuel rail. (Do they?) I'll upgrade to 50lb./custotm fuel rail later when I get some more money saved up. However, if the 370cc injectors don't fit the stock fuel rail, I'll go ahead and get the bigger injectors and custom rail.

How much can I expect to spend on getting it o-ringed?
Pistons have yet to be ordered. I'm gonna wait until I can look at the cylinder walls and see if they require boring to round them out or smooth them up. If so, it will be minimal.

whoa now...only got $6K budgeted remember. That sounds like some major cash. I wouldn't think it would require all that when there's guys out there running 300hp on completely stock internals/bottom. How much would all that cost?

So I'm assuming the JWT setup is versatile enough to let me run a little rich w/o one, but can still install an adjustable one later when I get ready to dyno tune.
If you haven't noticed, I'm trying make this as cheap as possible w/o taking any detrimental shortcuts. I'd like to have enough left over to do a front Z brake upgrade to help me control the extra power. When I'm done with it, I'd like to have it running safely around 250hp to the wheels, but fairly easily be able to attain my power goal with a little more time/and money over the next year or so. What do you think?

the 370cc injectors are the exact injectors used in the 300z
they drop right into the fuel rail.
ok, scratch the crank thing. the o-ringing i guess is pretty cheap. here is an example of what i paid
ALL FOR $500>>
block o-ringed
slight bore
polished crank,
balanced crank
bearings
block decked
lower timing cover decked to match the block height
lower timing cover and upper timing cover powerdercoated
rear and front main seals put in
and assembly of the bottom end.
I don't know if thewholefnshow was referring to an EGT gauge or if there's such thing as a 'turbo temperature' gauge... but an EGT would be useful as well as an oil pressure and air/fuel ratio gauges. If you could only get one it would be either EGT or Oil press. ... actually, all 3 are pretty important for boosted cars... errr... but anyway. Well, gauges are fairly cheap compared to some of the other things I'm paying for, so I could probably spring for an extra gauge or three (if I can only figure out where to put them--not real fond of A-pillar pods).
I figured he meant exhaust gas temp...never heard of turbo temp. Would the egt just be tapped into the down pipe? the header?
I'm also open to any suggestions regarding effective engine bay heat management.

I'd say get a walbro fuel pump instead of zx one. Don't think it would matter much, but i heard it's better, plus those 50-60 bux of difference won't really matter assuming u'll spend 6 grand

I was thinking about going with the Walbro, depending on price and how much was left in the budget (since that'll probably be one of the last things to go in). For the Walbro replacement, is the right size 255 l/hr?

I'm trying to figure out a way to put slots between each runner and increase the bolt hole sizes as they go from center to edges. This should allow room for thermal expansion and keep it from cracking.

in an attemp to awnser you guage qeustion, but if you have that little tray under you stereo, you could probably fit a couple of gauges there, like boost and a/f, which i thik are the two most important, or you could always tuke them away in the glove box if you want the car to still look stock, just some ideas, hope they help, sorry i cant help on the turbo parts tho, i need to learn more about that b4 i go KA-T

you're going with some NICE parts but you're going to get a junkyard intercooler? one that you have no idea whether or not it has leaks or if it's plugged in spots? my vote goes to a nice FMIC...since you're obviously not doing the CHEAP route on other stuff.
the walbro 255 will be cheaper and better than the Z pump, BTW.

Well, if I do go that route, I will have it pressure tested...but I guess that's still letting a nickel hold up a dollar. I definitely can't afford to drop $800 on an intercooler kit. I've recently heard that f-max has a kit for a little over $400, which I'm looking into. And I think daperformance.com sells a huge intercooler (no kit) for a little over $300.

There's also the Isuzu NPR FMIC that people talk about. You could also look for newish Spearco FMICs on eBay and around the internet. I agree that you probably don't need a "kit" as you can do fine with custom piping. I just think the junkyard IC sounds like a bad idea...who knows what could have fallen in there or plugged up stuff. And it might hold pressure and work just fine...until the rat droppings get jarred loose after 500 miles and get sucked into your engined only to be chewed up by your throttle plate, valves, and turbine. Sucky.

I'm planning on checking all the bolts and stuff pretty frequently at first to make sure they're holding up. If worse, comes to worse, I could always safety wire 'em...or tack weld 'em <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'> .

The injectors, I say start bigger. The stock fuel rail should be able to support up to about 550cc injectors. Any after market injector for a SR will drop right in to the KA rail, unless otherwise specified. I am upgrading to a set of 480cc injectors out of an s15 SR.
From the looks of it you are building a motor that should hold well over 300hp. There is no reason to start with injectors that small.

Well, in that case, I probably will go larger. I was under the impression that the biggest that the stock rail could take is 370cc injectors.
Since I was going with 300zx injectors from a parts store, where might I find larger ones?

Definatly get the Walbro High pressure pump (FPN006 - $110)from http://www.autoperformanceengineering.com/html/fuelpump.html
Then go to http://heavythrottle.com or http://srswap.com/injectors.htm and buy some injectors that drop into your rail.
Safety wire anything you are nervous about backing out.

I have read a lot about turbo setups with DSM's in the last few years and one of the most important things I've learned is that your supporting mods will determine how much power you get from your turbo.
With that said, I would say go for the bigger injectors (my 14B turbo'd Eclipse has 450cc injectors for 190hp stock), Walbro 255 fuel pump, A'pexi AFC, and decent intercooler for your rather large turbo. You can always find used intercooler setups, albeit with the wrong piping (might be able to use some of it) at www.dsmtrader.com. Besides FMIC's, look for Supra MkIV sidemounts, they are great at exactly the hp ranges for which you are looking.
