View Full Version : ITB's on a KA24DE

I’ve got an s14 with basically a stock KA24DE. I have the opportunity to fabricate an ITB setup at a very low cost. In all cases which I have searched, all ITB setups have a standalone, i.e.: Megasquirt. Is it mandatory to do this? Or could you just build a plenum with a MAF attached to the plenum?

From what I’ve seen most people use GXR 750 or GXR 1000 throttle bodies. Some people switch to larger injectors, some don't.

What’s your guys’ advice?

Thanx

No point in going ITBS if you have stock engine management. That's like getting new wheels and sticking your old tires on them.

Even with stock engine management you will gain top end power and throttle response, but you will lose low end torque and it will probably be a more significant drop because of the lack of an engine management system. Also i'm not even sure it will run at all w/out an EMS. So bottom line GET AN EMS.

it wont run on the stock ecu because of the fact that theirs no where to put the MAF, so he has to switched to a MAP based EMS that can also do Alpha-N. But if you do the plenum than yes you can get the stock ecu to work. Only thing I would ask is why build a plenum I always read stories of ITB's performing better without the plenum.

So you could turbo with ITB's like a RB26. lol

i would do a piggyback with map sensor. aka emanage ultimate.

hmmm. ok. i think ive got a better understanding. but yea, i was just gonna do a plenum to hook up the MAF as an intermediate step before i get some type of alternative fuel map

i would do a piggyback with map sensor. aka emanage ultimate.

emanage is crap. Don't piggy back it. It can be done and you'll probably have gains in the top end without any tuning, or it will run like crap. Best thing would be to get it tuned to get good gains across the whole board.

emanage is crap.

i think it cant run on MAP on a MAF car theres a piggy back called map-ecu and the map-ecu II, google it, you can use it to convert from a maf sensor to a map sensor, if i remeber correctly its about 700, just another alternative to enginemagement.

You can run ITB's on stock engine management and stock components with no problem as long as you make a plenum. Here's a picture of of my KA24DET with ITB's on a 1973 Datsun 510....It can be done...

I'm using a Jim Wolf ECU because I have 615 Nismo injectors, a GT2871R turbo, and Z32 MAF..

you really need to determine if you want to run ITB's + plenum or itb's open atmosphere.

plenum = maf compatible
open= map necissary.

The Emanage Ultimate is ok for modification on a MAF system, but using it to CONVERT to MAP i would suggest against, because it does not utilize an AIR temp sensor.

Preferably a StandAlone with MAP support will be in order.

so i've finally decided to go plenum+MAF as just a short intermediate step while i save up for a Standalone with a MAP support. any more suggestions or "more popular"/successful on which Standalone to go with?

(Thanx for the feedback guys! Much appreciated)

Haltech like some other ITB ka setups,

or AEM, because its plug and play.

KAT boards for the AEM.

MegaSquirt is SOOO cheap, you should be able to buy one new.

The e6x is like 1200 after parts and accesories.

Or you can find an older model e6 series on ebay, and order your spares like a new harness and sensors from me. I have all the old legacy haltech stuff stocked as well.

Megasquirt is DIRTY cheap. MSII V3.0 unassembled costs $250, wiring harness $60, extra supplies like GM IAT sensor and nick nacks here and theire will set you back another $50. If you go the assembled route which I recommend since its baller Surface Mounted. The surface mounted one runs about $430 and comes with 1yr warranty. Also the new codes are wicked sick, I'm running a old code 2.36 on my setup and when I checked out the new code 2.86 I was like HOLY CRAP. Also the MSIInExtra code is insane as well, they bumped the maps to 16x16 as opposed to the 12x12 maps.
