I would say start at the basics, check for air fuel and spark, make sure your getting good spark to all the cylinders, check for good fuel pressure, and no air restrictions, check maf, and you saying that you have to give it gas to keep it running, check your throttle body and throttle plate. Could be excessive carbon build up.

your cylinders might be flooded with fuel, check your injectors and replace fuel pressure regulator and fuel filter.

Also check your brake booster vacuum line from the intake manifold.
Same thing happened to me when I installed my SR.

I would start by checking your electrical connections, especially at the MAF and your distributor and coil. Buy some electrical terminal cleaner (CRC makes some and it should be avail at your local auto parts store) and some dielectric grease. Clean your main sensor connections and take a small screwdriver and squeeze the female ends of the spade connectors a little tighter, then apply the grease and plug it back in. Another thing could be the coolant sensor is not reading right so it is not going into cold start. Find the resistance specs and ohm it out.
